The mayor said one, or more of em had a weapon or weapons on them!!!

These guys were up to something I'm sure, even if it was just to flee the scene (Boston). They're saying they were being tracked by Boston Police, but got away, and that's why they got em in Providence.

Okay more news. The train was bound for DC, and the people are being let back on to finish their trip.

Not sure if I'd get back on myself though! :Q

The reporter is trying to nicely say that people were screaming some very nasty things at these guys, and that they were very, very upset! Scarey stuff indeed. :(

No it wasn't a commuter rail, as Providence is a small city w/ one stop, and only one other in the whole state. It was bound from Boston to DC. :)

There isn't a commuter rail in Providence, but there is one one in MA. The MBTA (commuter rail) has several trains that make trips to Providence, after finishing the MA stops... Trust me, I've taken the MBTA for over 4 years...

edit: My girlfriend called and told me it was one of the Amtrak trains, not a commuter train.

Exactly. I've taken that train from Taunton (end of the line) to Boston before, and from Bridgewater. That is a totally different line all together. This was an actuall Amtrack train headed to DC.

Where are you from Freeze? I'll be using a "T" up there pretty soon when I see Bob Dylan at the Fleetcenter. I love driving into the MBTA garage, and getting off 93 man. That's a nice feeling for sure. :)

There may be e sense of confusion when I mentioned the MBTA. It obviously covers the subway (red, orange lines etc), but I am referring to the "Purple" line, or commuter rail. Not that this distinction is at all important in light of current events. I just wanted to know if it was a 'local' train or an 'interstate' train. Thanks for the info. :)

No man. I know the difference. Commuter rail = $9, "T" = $2. LOL

MBTA is an awesome way to get around man. I wish we had something similar in RI. I've got to drive anywhere I go. Like I said. That MBTA garage is a welcome sight when I'm headed into Boston gridlock, especially since I usually go there for concerts. I don't drink. So I ALWAYS get stuck behind the wheel, plus I drive for a living. If we had a "T" type system, and or commuter rails from Newport to Providence. I'd use it a lot. ;)

FYI,

That guy is a *Sikh* NOT a muslim, not an arab. Sikhs must carry a "knife" with them for self-defence and defence of others. Again, he is NOT a muslim.

Sikhs also wear tubans, as they are religiously required to do so. I guess not even the law-enforcement people are educated enough to distinguish Sikhs from others.

Sikhs throughout history have given their lives for the protection of the innocents. How do you think the guy shown on TV feels? And they are holding him on a weapons charge - he's just practicing his religion. And to top it off, even the media do not identify him as a Sikh - NOT a muslim.

Hey Andy, I was leaving Providence just as they were pulling in. We were about 2 blocks over. I'm glad we got out as they were coming in, or we'd have been trapped there for hours. I wondered what was going on, but it took 2 hours for the news to have something on it. And the local tabloid news surprisingly had nothing about it.

singh - i know, it's not fair. but given the current state of affairs, i'm not about to condemn the police for making this mistake. it's better to err on the side of making mistakes like this and being too careful than risking more explosions.
