I totalled an Accord hitting two elk, & I knew a kid who was killed when an oncoming truck hit a cow elk & flipped it on top of the car he was riding in.

My dad grew up near a lot of farms, and the word he heard quite often to describe them was "stupid." Incredibly stupid. Herd animals, kept in captivity, with no need for the slightest shred of intelligence.
