here is a short video. guy is arrested. they have him down. one officer sitting on his neck. the guy screaming he can' breath (though if he is talking he can breath) so he struggles and they start hitting him?

CNN has another link that the FBI is investigating.

personally i think they went a little overboard but not brutality.

It'd be nice to see why they had him restrained like that in the first place.

But it looks bad to me.

The guy is a gang member and a criminal. I could care less if they sat on his neck or ran him over with their car.

Looks to me like they were preventing him from complying to their commands the way they were restraining him.

The punches to the face were not forcing him to his front where he could comply. As a result, they were unjustified.

it really does not matter that he was a gang member. that does not justify abuse.

Having said that, if he had a history of resisting arrest or fought them to get to the point where they were, then he brought in on himself.

Yea, I know. That comment was 100% serious, but you can probably tell how insensitive I am to criminals/gang members.

Yeah, its borderline.

Although if you can say "I can't breathe", you most certainly obviously can.

Yea, when I was younger and I was wrestling with a buddy or being tickled to death, I would sream "I cant breathe" just to get them off of me.

Although, I dont think this guy was being tickled.

That's the irony isn't it. If you can't breath, they you will die unable to say anything.

It's like how they use to root out witches. If you sink, then you aren't a witch (and you die). If you float (and survive) then you are a witch and will be killed.

He's punching him because he's resisting...a couple punches and he's no longer resisting.

Yeah, seeing this from the beginning would be helpful. Where the video starts, it is an odd position for the cops to be holding him. I'd think he gave them a hard time and they had to wrestle with him, which ended in the odd position we see at the beginning of the video. Likely, he's still trying to free his arms, and if he would, he wouldn't have good intentions.

It's easy to watch the video on the internet and say "they should have done this instead", but when your the guy dealing with the criminal who wants to hurt you and escape, it isn't so easy. I'm not saying abuse of power by the police doesn't happen, but I doubt we are seeing it in this video.

Don't break the law and fight with the police when being arrested, don't get punched in the face by the police.

This thread made me think of this. (Video NSFW)

What I see is a video edited exactly to show you only what the editing person wants to show you - as others have said, where's the context?

I'll say this: I'm *always* inclined to side with the cops on stuff like this, but punching him in the face doesn't quite seem... right. Without seeing more, I can't leave the cop's side, and will leave the benefit of the doubt on their side.

cops should be punching people in the face when they have them pinned already.

it doesnt matter who it was, if its okay for a gang member its okay for them to do it to your mom also when they arrest her. either its allowed or its not. this isnt a conviction before trial country.
a well trained officer would have flipped him over and cuffed him by using his appendeges. those officers are nothing more than thugs themselves.

Have you ever tried to restrain someone and make them comply with just 2 people? It takes alot of strength and endurance to do with when the guy is fully resisting and its very very very difficult. Stunning hits are perfectly justified to make someone comply.
