POLE: What would you do?

My upcoming situation:

I am moving over 3000km away on an airplane. I.E. Not even a car, anything I bring that won't fit in regular baggage I'll pay for excess baggage!
I will be there 4 months for training, then I move again anywhere in the country. Probably back out west, so another 2000-3500km back out here. Again, only with what I fit on the plane.
After I'm done on the job training it is quite likely I'll do a third, smaller move. Basically it will be a lot like the army in the sense that I will never be quite secure in a place for the next 5-10 yrs. However, all further moves I should have a car...so size is less of an issue.

Would you:

Buy a laptop
Buy a slim factor PC
Stick with regular full size PC

I was pretty set on a laptop, but I do a lot of gaming. I have a feeling the Asus 71va will be sluggish in comparison to my 2500+ Barton system (clocked @ 3000+ with 400FSB...)

So I'm not sure...thought I'd pole the night tech guys 😀

P.S. Cost is sort of an issue. This is the education money my dad put away for me, I have 20k to spend, but anything I don't spend goes to his retirement. I don't want to waste anything I don't have to...but its flexible.

Definately not full size.
I'd be real tempted to go laptop and get the best video card I could afford and just face the fact I couldnt play the newest games on the highest setting.

Such is life.

just bring a hardrive and buy a PC when you get somewhere.

or mail your computer to yourself.. ain't that expensive. cheaper than paying excess baggage.

where are you going? what are you doing?

i carried a full size desktop with 20" lcd as a carryon over the summer, 5k miles each way 🙂

go with a shuttle though, imo thats a good way to go. if you can drop the cash, get a nice laptop and just stick with it.

I think I blabbled about it to you before...Flight Service Specialist for Nav Canada

Save your pennies and buy a used crap laptop. Once you give up the ability to play games then performance is no longer an issue so you can go real cheap. Once the traveling is over go buy a new gaming rig.

I just did the exact same thing earlier in the year. I went with the small-form factor (Mac Mini).

buy a full-sized PC and simply ship it fedex or ups whenever you move.

+4 months is a decently long time.

it's not like you'll be in a different time zone every week.
