Pole: Skiing vs. Snowboarding

So me and 2 of my friends are going to Breckenridge for our first snow/ski trip ever at 22. I am about as uncoordinated as they come, but I consider myself fairly athletic (if it makes any difference, I run/workout almost every day)..so which one would be more fun? We are going for 5 days and I don't want to spend the whole 5 days falling..

falling on a snowboard is prolly going to be more painful.

as to what is easier to learn in a short time??

i really dont know, i skied for the first 14 years of my life and have been snowboarding ever since then.

I actually went for the first time around a month ago. I chose skiing and I definately don't regret it. I was ready to quit when all of a sudden everything just clicked and my second time down I pretty much had it down. I was then able to go down different slopes and well speed is great 😀

snowboarding is hard to learn, but easy to master.

id change that to read:

skiing is easy to learn, hard to master
snowboarding is difficult to learn, but hard to master.

neither one is easy to master, there are still a ton of small things in snowboading that are as difficult as it is in skiing, turns and such while not loosing speed without actually kicking your board out to slow you down and such.

skiing is just dependent upon how long you can keep your skis extremely parallel to each other without spreading or crossing them. (its hard)

I got the hang of it on the first day without taking lessons. My skateboarding experience paid off.

Mmmmm..... my friends went on the half-pipe after only two years of snowboarding.
And last year my friends and I saw this kid tearing up a trail on snowboard. Asked his age, he was only 7 years old.

Also, skiing isn't just about keeping your skis parallel for a long time unless you're one of those speed-demons who do not appreciate carving the trails and go straight down.

if you are a good skier your skis should ALWAYS be parrallel iirc.

ive seen 7 year olds riping up slopes on skiis, they are typically fearless, thats why they always seem so good, they will try anything.

ive gone on the half pipe after two years of snowboarding, was i good at it, no.

could i do it on skis, yes.

Fixed.

Nothing is easy to master, but I would say skiing is a little bit harder to master than snowboarding.

Seems like standing on two long sticks and trying to keep them parallel while managing those dorky poles would be harder than sliding down a hill on a big skateboard.

its not, and obviously you have never skied

From everyone that I know of, Snowboarding is harder to learn once you've tried skiing. I snowboarded from the start... and have ever since I was about 9.... I'm 18 now. I snowboard atleast once a week during the season... except now that I'm at college, and far away from any ski areas. I tried skiing for the first time about 2 or 3 years ago... it wasn't difficult to do, I just had trouble stopping.

I believe skiing is easier to learn and even easier to get to a decent level of control, although you can really tear up your knee with a relatively minor fall.

snowboarding? you'll spend the first day on your butt and it will take a fair amount of time to get real control.

I prefer snowboarding, but then again I've been doing it since burton released their first board (well, maybe 2nd...a cruiser 155)

My parents started me skiing at age two. They leterally took me down teh mountain between their legs 😀 I switched to boarding at age 8 and have never looked back. it is harder to learn, but the experience is much better imo. Shredding on a board is just different. Also whoever said that boarding is a lot easier to perfect than skiing abviously hasnt tried to do it in waist deep powder. have fun.

Been skiing for 20years (since 4), tried boarding a couple of times but it's not my thing.

I do love snowboard parks though, I do the half pipes and rails with my skis🙂

meh, powder is easier on a board IMHO. As long as you stay on top of it its the most incredible thing there is - you are literally surfing.

heck, waist deep powder is hard on either. go fast and then go faster otherwise you are hosed.

Only take advice from people who have actually done both extensively.
Skiing is definately easier to learn.

If you want to have a fun week, ski.
If you want to have fun for life, learn to snowboard.
