Polarized sunglasses........yeah or neah???

polarized protects your eyes from UV better too....and there's no glare, and they filter out the sun better....wtf would your 'guru' say they're not all that. Guy sounds like a moron. For cryin out loud the poll is 96-4 right now hahah

LS20 is right about possible annoyances. Occasionally, there are some types of displays (polarized) that I can't read because I'm wearing polarized lenses... only annoying if I don't figure out that there's something there.

Well, to be honest.........the reason I'd listen to my buddy & count his input as much as 85 people here on this board is because........

#1.) I know him

#2.) He's a truck driver by trade

#3.) He owns enough quality shades to be able to offer an opinion on the matter in this case.

EDIT: And so nobody thinks he believes there are *NO* good shades, he did tell me that he used to consider "Suncloud" the best. Specifically with the "Rose" lenses. He said they made vision like a dream & cut glare like no shades on the market today....(& he's owned a bunch). But apparently they went under. Figures, eh?

Bottom line......(in my case).....is that I'd looooove to get rid of glare. I hadn't even *talked* glare with him yet, and he brought it up immediately. That's what got me spooked.

I really wanna get rid of glare........(especially that sun-in-the-windshield type of glare).......so that I can drive more confidently. As it's winter here in So Cal the sun's layin' low in the sky these days so the sun's hittin' at more angles.......(thus my quest now & not in the middle of July).

During summer, any old shades do me fine 'cuz the sun is way more vertical & it's more of a "brightness" taming issue than a "glare" taming issue.

Hope that helps inform folks more about my opinion on the matter.

color tint only reduces overall brightness, if you want to get rid of those sun-in-the-windshield type of glare that you mentioned, or those glare that you see when you're looking out to the surface of the water, get polarized.

polarized cuts off the horizontal light that causes the glare that you experience. Oh if you have 2 pieces of polarized lenses, try putting one in front of another and turn it around, it'll reach a point where it cuts off almost all visible light! pretty cool and an easy way for me to check when people bring in their glasses to me asking if they're polarized or not.

You haven't mentioned needing a prescription, but if you or anyone that's reading want to get prescription polarized, make sure you mention how dark you want the shade to be, because theres light, medium and dark, and usually if you don't say anything we order the darkest(which I think really an overkill if only for driving)

You are going to believe his single opinion over 85 people here who voted for polarized?

that means little if those 85 people don't really know much about polarization.

people equate polarization to better optics.. but its not true. like the guy above who said "Other sunglasses just darken your view."... um, thats why people wear sunglasses. (perhaps what hes looking for are clear polarized lenses like a camera filter).

a TV with PIP means it has PIP feature--not that it is better than other TVs without PIP.

get polarized glasses IF YOU NEED IT.... otherwise, it'll do more annoyance than anything.

whatever, its your money

ive had 2 pairs of oakleys non-pol, 1 smith non-pol, 1 rudy project non-pol, 1 smith pol, 1 peppers pol

Polarization of a lens is just a coating applied to the lens. It helps dramatically reduce glare and I find them much easier on my eyes. Less eye strain in bright sunlight. Personally, I think his friend is just somewhat uninformed.
