Polarized or non Polarized sunglasses?

So I was wondering what everyone who cares about sunglasses thought about this, I have read that for Skiing, fishing, or other activities with high glare factors involved Polarized sunglasses are the way to go, however they might not be ideal for casual wear and or if you're driving all of the time (some say better for driving, others not)

Just wondering what everyone who owned them or didn't felt...is it worth it (about a $40 difference in price)...the shades I am looking with either come with grey polarized glass or brown non polarized glass.

Thanks

The cheap clip-on's I wear are the same price polarized vs non, so I go with polarized.

I don't know if I'd shell out an extra $40, though. Depends how much the glasses cost.

It's pretty unanimous -- go polarized. Eliminating the glare _greatly_ reduces eyestrain, and is awesome for driving. The only downside to them is that plastics (like your dash clock) often look weird with polarized lenses.

QFT. My sunglasses are prescription, so if I'm just running into a store, I dont bring my regular glasses. Trying to read one of those card scanners to sign for a purchase is damn near impossible with those on.

But it's worth it for driving. Completely. Mine also have back glare protection (basicly a coating on the inside to filter out glare from behind), which I have found more gimicky than useful, and it was expensive @ $30.

Generally yeah... polarized is the way to go. But in certain occasions they suck. THe problem I had with them is that while flying our aircraft at work (727's), the polarization didn't get along with the glass windscreens in the cockpit and resulted in a mishmash of splotched colorization based on how your head was angled in relation to the window. So I bought some non-polarized sunglasses that I used for that and they worked fine. I never did figure out what caused the incompatibility but it happened with several sunglasses and in all 3 of the jets. Very odd.

polarized.
I like tilting my head, or flipping the glasses off and on, to see what's getting blocked.:sun::cool:

I've never had an issue with displays. The LCD polarization is typically at a 45-degree angle while glasses polarization is at a 90 degree angle. Unless I tilt my head to the side like the RCA dog I have no trouble reading my car's LCD displays nor my nav system's display. An LED digital dash, naturally, won't have any problems at all with polarized lenses.

Never had a problem with my Blackberry's screen when wearing my polarized glasses either.

My Sirius receiver in the car is completely blacked out looking at it dead on with polarized lenses. Happens with both my perscription shades and my wife's off-the-shelf Ray Bans.

I find that looking at laptop screens get pretty faded out when looking dead on too.

Polarized with enhanced contrast. I can't imagine wearing anything else. Walmart even has decent pairs for under 20 bucks that you won't mind sitting on or losing.
