You know you've messed up when AMD invites Linus, of all people, but not you.

To be honest I don't really read anything on [H] anymore I just go there to look at benchmarks

Agreed. Their words do not match the data and they have preconceptions before they review that guide their conclusions. But as long as they don't fudge the numbers I like their testing methodology so it's worth including them as a resource along with other reviews, even if their game selection isn't always the most logical.

That explains it!! He thought Polaris 10 was a GP104 competitor due to faulty maths, and so soon to launch when it is obvious that a smaller chip won't do so,he is genuinely surprised. LOL.

It's a complete non-story. He thought 14nm was magical and Polaris 10 was meant to match 1080. Now even if it ends up at 1070 performance, 150W, $300, it's a disaster by his accounts. Whatever, game is still on.

That he thinks AMD's process has a 30% advantage based on no actual evidence is telling. It is quite clear that Polaris 10 was never intended to compete against the full GP104, and I don't see any room for misinterpretation of this.

I can already hear the fanboys ripping into my thoughts here yelling about the HardOCP's NVIDIA and Intel bias. This editorial is based on what I hear throughout the industry from insiders that know what is going on inside of AMD. AMD is not in a good place and there is no shortage of current and recently departed employees that are eager to share their take on what's going on. Lisa Su has lost command of her ship, and Koduri is about to put it on the beach and hope he can make it to shore in his Radeon Technologies Group lifeboat.

Well, he was right there!..LOL

Would it be unkind to point out to Kyle that if Koduri has already put the ship on the beach then he doesn't need a lifeboat to get to shore?

Kyle can be a little abrasive but if you actually read his editorials you would see he knows what he is talking about.

More like he thinks he knows what he is talking about, but it is conjecture, innuendo, and FUD most of the time.

Urgh

1) he makes some interesting points about the RTG group, but these rumours have been floating around.

2)He isn't the only one going about comparing a smaller chip to a 1080 For some reason they have to compete, price/performance/power is the only thing I personally care about.

3)AMD always has stated mid 2016 , to me that means beginning of May-end of August, why is this such a big suprize.

So he could have rewritten it into a well-formed editorial about the RTG group. But in the end it just reads as someone being angry almost vulgar for no reason, missed opportunity.

Well Kyle has staked his claim in the ground, it will be interesting to see what the reviews reveal about his insider information. :hmm:

o_O

This is the "nature of the beast". Kyle isn't a game coder or chip engineer, he's a guy that runs benchmarks, gives you the info he's been given, and his opinions on it.

That is what all "tech journalists' are. He was one of the first sites (the first?) to gives us graphs of frame rates over time, and try to show what the best playable setting is on cards.

For this reason alone his reviews are worth reading. Who cares if a 1080 will do an average of 50fps at 4k with 4X AA if the frame rate is in the 20s as often as its in the 80s?
