So its finally showing up - Is this the next gen AMD flagship with HBM2. The pricing seems to indicate its a high end part. The timing also aligns with Samsung's high volume production of HBM2 announced in mid-Jan.

Obviously Samsung would have had HBM2 pre-production or engineering samples much earlier for AMD to have taped out Polaris 11. I am guessing AMD will have Polaris 11 with HBM2 launching in mid-late Q3 surely. Let the next gen contest begin.

Here's hoping it's full on big Polaris. I've been lusting after the Fury cooler since the first pictures.

There are few who think a late June or July launch of Polaris 11 is possible. Raja Koduri also stated mid-2016 for the launch of Polaris.:)

Is that really $1600 USD? How much was the FuryX when it was on Zauba?

Scaling that number up, it looks like a launch price of $899-$999 is in the cards.

That's the customs value of the card they shipped. The value of an engineering sample had very little to do final MSRP though. If you're only making a few dozen of them and with a quick turnaround each card could easily be that amount regardless of whether it's big or little Polaris.

Q3 is right around where I'd be willing to buy. End of Q2/start of Q3 (my birthday :D).

But what is this about $1600? Haha. I mean, seriously. D:

EDIT: @ Mr. Teal.

Oh, makes me think of the post someone made about making cell phones. The prototypes they got where way more expensive then the final models they ended up selling.

Makes sense.

I am sure I read somewhere that AMD is sourcing HBM2 from Hynix and Nvidia from Samsung. Have you any links to AMD getting HBM2 from Samsung too?

Well it's True but this one is probably expensive, at least $1K.

I can believe $1000 if Polaris launches first, sadly. Let's just hope the 7950 equivalent is reasonable.

What on earth are you basing that off of? You don't even know what card it is or where it will be in the product stack.

See the 75,000 INR Fiji? If that chip went to be sold for $650, then 110,000 INR would be $950+.

You are failing to take exchange rate differences into account. The INR has been falling to the dollar for years.

110,000 INR today = 1,611.50 USD
110,000 INR one year ago = 1,785.30 USD

But even then, these are engineering samples. These customs prices literally have *NOTHING* to do with MSRPs. I have dealt with prototypes that cost 10x what the final product cost. It all depends on what the components cost in low quantities, what the labor is for doing one offs, and what kind of turn around time you want.

custom made pre-mass production prototype cost is almost completely irrelevant to final cost.

Go see how much it costs to buy pre-fabricated cabinets at any chain store, and then get a quote how much it would cost to get those same cabinets custom built.

Samsung HBM2 is only for NV, they announced it on the Korean tech sites awhile back.

AMD's HBM2 supply is from Hynix.

We will know a launch is imminent when we start to get AIB leaks. Until then, it's still all in-house.

Did Samsung say that in an official release or did the Korean sites magically know that Samsung will only sell to Nvidia and not to AMD. Samsung is a DRAM manufacturer and sells to anybody who needs their product.

If we imagine that was even true. Then Hynix sure got the short end of the stick.

But again...its not true.

Article was quoting Samsung officials.

@ShintaiDK
Rather than say random statements definitively, you should source it. Did you read that Korean ITtimes article awhile back?

It would be anticompetitive to exclude someone from a product.

And neither Samsung or Hynix cares for if NVidia or AMD buys. They only care that someone buys.

Its screams against any logic that Samsung would be NVidia only and Hynix AMD only. Unless they simply by accident each picked those as sole suppliers for each one.

Please link the article. Being quoted also needs to be checked with which site is quoting. Is it a reputable tech/news site with credibility or a click bait site like wccftech.

In Korean, but mentions Samsung producing HBM2 for Pascal, with volume in Q2.

According to industry sources, one of its customers is NVIDIA, a global leading graphic card maker.

There's many articles that mentions SK Hynix producing HMB2, one of its customer is AMD.

"According to industry sources, one of its customers is NVIDIA, a global leading graphic card maker. As other companies, like Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), are scrambling to increase the demand of HBM DRAM, Samsung Electronics is highly likely to have more customers."

There is nothing which says anything about Samsung supplying exclusively to Nvidia. They are one of many customers.

So nothing about exclusive production for each one?

exactly.

Yes but articles about Samsung HBM2 focus on NV.

Articles on SK Hynix focus on AMD.

Last year there was some articles that hint AMD get priority access of HBM2 from Hynix.

There's likely to be a reason for this emphasis of specific mention of partnerships. Ofc, it could be purely coincidental. We shall see.
