I play both in person and online. I don't always have time for live games nor do i want to go somewhere t odo it, when there is much money to be had online. $200-$300 a week isnt a bad bankroll builder. But a good player can play online as well as in person. Keep in mind online isnt all that easy if you are playing for a good sum of money, most of the players in the higher stakes games are very good, and you dont have all of the table information to help you as you would in a live game. However i do enjoy both types of play and i do both frequently.

As for slumps.... There are many good books out there. Super System and Harrington on Hole' em vol I & II Are very good books. You have to play solid poker with well thought out strategy and play for value and bankroll management. The key is to build it up steady, whereas drastic fluctuation usually leads to being broke, which seems to be what happened to you.

However, I'm putting in $25 and if I lose it all, that's it. I'm decent enough of a player that I should be able to keep even, maybe even come out slightly ahead. And yes, I would love to go to the WSOP. I'd probably be knocked out almost immediately, but the experience of it all would be worth it.

This is a bad approach, IMO. With $25, I assume you'll be playing micro limit cash games($.01/.02 and up) or $1/$2(or higher) multi-table tournaments or sit-and-gos. I don't see a problem with that, but even at those stakes I don't think $25 is high enough to survive a bad stretch.

He has a semi-valid point. Micro stakes poker doesn't have the greatest ROI, however, i once made $3 into three figures in a day as a bet with my friend, but it depends on how experienced you are, and also obviously what the game holds in store for you. However you should still be able to make something from $25 no problem if you have some experience and strategy under your belt. good luck.

btw are there any reputable poker sites that are still available to US residents?

FullTiltPoker.com is my personal favorite.
FTP has been down for 3 hours.

Although it had some problems, I feel that PokerRoom is clearly better than FTP. Too bad they locked out U.S. players. :frown:

Just open a bank account with a credit card from a canadian bank. Problem solved. ;)

If he plays well, I'd expect him to turn a profit over time, whether or not he plays for $ or $$$. But with just $25, his bankroll is at just 25x buy-in for the smallest tournaments, and 1250x BB, which, IMO, is not a good place to be. Obviously he's not worried about going broke for $25, but if he's going to play for money, he might as well put in 100 or 200(or whatever) and play longer. I don't know about PS and their deposit bonus stuff so I don't know for sure now, but it's a good idea to take advantage of that. Treat it like the employer-matched 401k! :D

Also, the rake for > $5 SNGs are a huge rip off.

Yeah I'm not trying to make a huge amount of cash, just to have a little more fun. You can only do so many play chip tourneys before they lose a little of their luster. If I do end up turning a profit, hey that's cool. :) Currently PokerStars has a 100% match for first time deposits, so I'll end up with $50 to play around with. I'm nowhere near good enough of a player to risk $100 just yet.

I played a ton this past year. Online micro stakes hold em, plus almost 400 hours live playing 2/4, 3/6, 4/8. Pretty good year, I made decent money at those stakes and learned a lot.

Well I don't think you understand how that works. To get the bonus you have to earn a certain number of FPP or Frequent Player Points. You earn this from time + hands played. Usually to get to the bonus' required amount of points it takes a little while if you aren't a serious player. Just make sure you dont go broke before you hit the required FPP number

I've been in a 6 month slump... still digging my way out of it. Only way to fix it is to fix what's messed up in your head, or take a break until it fixes itself. I'm doing the latter.

Yeah I was checking out the details the other night on the matching bonus. I might be able to get it, but I'm not entirely sure based on my skills. Ah well, something to shoot for.

Was about to go hit up a $25 + $5 tourney tomorrow but I'm just gonna go a few hours later and hit up some roulette.

I bought my friends some clay chips for Xmas. I wanted to keep them so bad. The stainless steel case alone was hot. That being said, I hate playing for nothing. I have to have some chips/money at stake or I wont play. Anyone else?
