Im looking to get a set of poker chips for me and my friends to use instead of pennys. I want to get fairly heavy chips that have some kind of label on them. I think it will be confusing to some people if its just colors.

Anyone have any advice on where to get a set or what kind to get?

Im pretty open I just want a good quality set.

Thanks

I think it would confuse people more if you wanted to change the denomination to something different than what's on the chip itself. I would get them unlabeled, and if you host a tournament, hang a poster showing the denominations.

Yeah, you really don't want labels on them with dollar values. It's not hard for people to remember the denominations, as you're only using 4 colors generally.

But yes, eBay has some good deals on good chips. Get an 11.5g (that's the weight) set with carrying case. You can get a 500 chip set w/ case for like $50-$60, or a 1000 chip set for like $100.

I was delivering pizza a couple of weeks ago and noticed a customer I knew well had one of those chip sets from ebay on their front porch. (they had been playing cards)
I made some sort of comment like "nice chips. Get them on ebay?" They looked at me puzzled, "no, we bought this in NC at a truck stop."
me: "wow, that set is identical to the ones they're selling on ebay, they're going for anywhere from 50 to 100 dollars" (my friend has the exact same set)
them: "wow, we should have bought a lot of them. These were only 19.99. "

So... apparently they're selling the exact same sets for a heckuva lot less some place.

anyone have any input from texas gaming supply on ebay? Or any other suggestions? It's a pain when you can't feel em in person. For comparison, I bought a box of the $10 ones from toys r us... they were ok.. but would like something better if at all possible (and a case :))

Take a look at www.ecasinodeals.com
They have those 500 chip 11.5g sets you can get on ebay, or 400 chip 9g clay sets. You have to deposit $100 in one of their poker rooms and play a minimum number of hands, and then you get the chip set for free. And if you're half way decent at poker, it's a cinch. (And if you're good at poker, it's really easy to make money). I've done three deals with this website. Lots of good choices for comps. Take a look around. They have really good customer service too.

Try freepokerstuff.com. You only have to make a 50 dollar deposit, and you get a nice 11.5g 500 chip set. One of my friends owns one of these sets, and let me tell you, they are very nice chips. For 50 bucks, you can't get any better, at least not that I know of.

The cool thing about ecasinodeals is that you have your choice of chips, and also choice of styles. So you don't have to get the basic set that everyone else has.

iirc, it's a synthetic material that feels like clay. Cuz if the chips were actually clay, they could mark your fingers or stuff I think.
