Argh, for over a week now I've had this little red mark right above my knee. It is kind of puffy, at first I thought it was just a cut since it kind of had a scab on it but I guess not, and it itches kinda bad sometimes. There is woods all over where I live but I've never had it before. Any ideas or treatment? Or do I just let it be.

If it was poison ivy, it would have been all over you by now and not stay in one spot, sure its not a bug bite.

Those were my thoughts a couple of years ago, and it turned out to be a mild case of poison ivy and quickly turned severe since I didn't take care of it properly, took me over 2 months to get rid of it in the end.
IS it very itchy? If so it could definately be poison ivy.
Use cotton swabs on it from a solution of some baking soda mixed with water, and calamine lotion to reduce itching.

Use IvyOff. I had poison ivy very badly one time, and it was the only thing that helped the process.

I think that I may be immune to poison ivy. I know that a lot of children have immunity but then they lose it as they age, but there have been a few times in the past few years (I'm 22) when I know that I have come in contact with it but nothing ever happened. On at least 2 occasions I can think of I couldn't even wash the area after contact because we didn't have enough extra water (camping). Any adults out there that don't seem to be affected?

I got a few bad cases of poison ivy a long time ago and the doctor gave me some prescription medicine to take care of it. He said it was some type of special steroid. That stuff worked extremely fast. Within a couple hours the itching had stopped, swelling had decreased, etc. If you go see your doctor about it they might give you something similar although I would think they only give it out for bad cases, so just something to keep in mind for the future I guess. After that I used a lotion called IvyBlock which is supposed to protect you from poison ivy if you apply it before you go into the woods or wherever, kind of like sunblock.

Sounds like a bug/spider bite since you said it's red and kind of "puffy". If you had poison ivy or poison oak, you would know. It ITCHES like hell and spreads if you scratch it.

If there hasn't been any change in this spot on your leg for a while, I would say (as above) that it is a spider or bug bite. It's summertime after all, and the creepy-crawlies are out in full force. It will most likely go away pretty soon. Just keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't develop into something worse.

Could be chiggers too. Chiggers are little mites that actually burrow into your skin and live in there for a while. You have to put something like fingernail polish over their hole to suffocate them:Q

WhiteKnight, I'm 24, and I've never had poison ivy, or poison oak, or anything like that. I can rub it directly onto my skin with no ill effect. I don't have a reaction to mosquito bites or bee stings either, it's just a like a normal pin prick for me. Quite spiffy:cool:
