If you can, get some antihystamines into you, like benadryl or something. Then get some calamine lotion and use that. If you live near water see if you can find some jewel weed, which is like natures natural remedy to poison ivy. Its hard to spot, so you need to look on the web for pictures. Just crush it up and rub it on the areas.

Try your Rite-Aid or whatever local drug store, they have this soap that works really well I forgot the brand name.Interestingly it was originally developed by a chemist for use in nuclear wars to wash off radiation fallout and they found out it works great on poison ivy too.

Use a cheese grater on the affected areas. That'll clear it right up for you.

PS: I'm not a doctor, and I don't play one on TV. Take my advice with a grain of salt.

PPS: You could also apply some of that salt to the affected areas after you apply the cheese grater. That should eliminate any remaining itching.

OK, time for bed. Sorry. :)

Benadryl Gel is good to use topically (right on the skin). You get the itch relief but don't have the benadryl all through your body. It's a powerful anti-histamine, and it's also the main ingredient in OTC sleeping pills! If you need to get any work done, try the topical. You could also try the 1% hydrocortisone creams; they're OTC and have the steroid effect of suppressing inflammation. Finally, Solarcain/Lanacain spray contains benzocain which will (somewhat) temporarily deaden the itch sensation - similar to the way novacain works on your gums. See what works for you.

Rubbing Alcohol will help. It will dry out the oil which is causing the irratation.

Just do not rub scratch the affected area, it will spread the oil.

Pick up 'Ivy dry' at your local drug store. I get it pretty bad and that is what works the best for me. I'm using it right now as a matter of fact.

to add to the horror stories of it:

my mom had it when she was pregant with me but couldnt take anything since she was carrying me, shes very allergic too...so by the time i was born she was covered almost head to toe with it...it was in between her toes rubbing together and under her arms and everything...she was in bad pain from it all, they had a huge shot of cortizone that they gave to her as soon as I was out...all that just to make sure that i didn't come out with extra fingers or anything...

Here's one I found out about last year: Tecnu. Comes in a white bottle & you can find it in K/WalMart and I'd imagine just about any pharmacy. It's a soap that breaks up the oil to get it off of your skin. Anytime you think you may have gotten into poison ivy you wash up with it. I moved into a house with a yard covered with poison ivy last year and broke out once a month through the summer until someone recommended this stuff to me. This year I haven't gotten it once. The local linemen/utility guys swear by it. They also sell a clear lotion for itching, it works just about as well as Calamine but it doesn't leave that dry crusty mess everywhere...

If you want a real home remedy try bleach. Just scrub yourself raw and pour Clorox on the rash. It'll kill the poison ivy oils -and- give you some really neat-O scars. I haven't tried it but I'd be willing to bet that it stings just a little, too. I'll stick with the Tecnu.

I'll offset the horror stories a bit:
I am 100% immune to Posion Ivy. I slept in a patch of it a few years ago. Nothing. I cannot get it. Its really weird.

Use Cortizone and take really really long realy really hot showerz. that helped my brother

cheap, easy (though only temporary) relief: Go jump in the neighborhood pool. The chlorine in the water will dry it out.
