I went camping with a friend last friday and was walking around the campsite in sandals. The next day I had a few itchy spots on my feet, figured it was mosquito bites. By Sunday I knew I had some ivy action there. On Tuesday, I decided to wash my sandals since the stuff that makes you itch is the oil from the poison ivy plant.

I threww my togs in the shower and let them soak for 30 minutes or so and then jumped in to wash them. I scoured them with soap and rinsed and then proceeded to wash my body (just finished 30 miles on the bike). Well, low and behold, Yesterday, the most sensitive part of me started itching!!! Ack!!

Any ideas on how to quell the itching on this most sensitive member?

Thanks!

I got a bit of poison ivy last summer and I was reading on ways to treat it and get rid of it the fastest..

Basically what keeps it there is the original oils are trapped under the surface of your skin and you need to dry it out to get rid of it. One site suggested using a blow dryer on the area covered and a little around it for about 10 minutes every few hours. Keep a towel with you and if you see an area become wet with a really watery puss or anything, blot it with a towel (as wiping it can spread it further) Use a new area of the towel every time you blot it.

The heat from the blow dryer is also somewhat soothing on the skin.

With this method I managed to get rid of some poion ivy in 4 days.

The drier you keep it, the faster the oils will be gone and rash will go away.

Just remember, DON'T SCRATCH IT! Or if you have to, put a towel over it and run the towel.

Guess your boys are out of commision for a week.

You have no idea. Itching on most parts of my body can be tuned out. However, this itching seems to be pinging my brain on the both the up and down cycles of my processor.

You're gonna need an ocean.... of Calamine lotion....

Talk to your local pharmacist for a recommendation.

Please stop torturing the English language. I'm sure it was just a temporary lapse of concentration that caused you not to say "don't scratch it," which is what I'm sure you meant to say.

last time I had Poison Ivy the doctor gave me some sort of pills that cleared it up within a few days. It was probably some sort of antihistamine, but I'm not sure.

It might have but I don't recall touching anything on the ground. Careless with your money?
