Can't look manly with pink Calamine plus Itch Relief slathered on your leg.

Got it about 2 weeks ago. Took 8 days to show up on my leg, but I thought it was a mosquito bite initially. Then after 2 or 3 more days, I noticed the mosquito bike multiplied and transferred to my other leg. Not any mosquito bite I'm familiar with!

Got it while tromping around our farm, riding the dirt bike. I had on pants, high socks, and big boots! I think that I got it from my dog. I took off my sweaty pants for the ride home, and put on some gym shorts. The dog had been all over the place down there, and poison ivy is all over the place down there. He probably rubbed the oil on me in the truck.

Been a bad year for it in the NE. I've never reacted despite years of working the the outdoors.

I've heard that once you loose your "immunity", you'll always be susceptible.

i react like i slept in it if i touch it normally... Havent had it bad this year, but Ivy Super Dry is the best stuff i have ever had, better than the topical steroids ive been given, etc...

and yes ive had it in nether regions, on the palm of my hand (hardest spot to get it), and everywhere else... it sucks but you can deal with it..

Take as hot of a shower as possible, slowly increasing the heat and the stuff will itch like a bitch, but afterwards, it wont itch for atleast an hour or two.

Ugh. If it's bad, see a doctor and get the steroids.

If it's not too bad, run hot water over it. Hot as you can stand. It'll release all your histamines, which'll cause an incredible amount of itchiness, but then it won't itch for a few hours.

Make sure everything you wore and touched that day has been washed appropriately. It takes almost no urushiol to cause a rash.

<------- Has had poison oak rashes far too often.

I'm especially sensitive to the horrid shit. I've had several memorable poison ivy rashes, even got it in my eyes once. Oh yes, and once I had it on my Johnson, apparently after getting the sap on my hands then taking a whiz.

My daughter has it too. It got so bad we had to take her to the Dr. and he gave her steroids. Still looks nasty :(

BTW- They have clear Calamine lotion now ;)

Plants that make an oily substance called urushiol. On contact with skin, urushiol can prompt a vigorous local immune response, usually leading to redness and some blistering and lots and lots of itching.

I had a bad case a few years back and used a product called Zanfel. Worked well.

I used to go along trails that were full of poison oak. I did try to avoid brushing myself with the stuff but I always ended up doing it. Fortunately, I never got any rashes.

I just got over a bad outbreak myself. I pulled down some poison vines, but didn't know they were poison, and have both arms and one of my legs covered. Had a few spots where it was so bad that it scabbed over, and had big red spots about 3" in diameter.

Took about 3 days for the first spots to show up, then 7 days for the majority of it to show up, and about 10 days for the remaining to show up. Used calamine lotion and benadril itch creme, and I never really was bothered much by the itching. Took 3 weeks before the redness started going away, and it actually itched more once it was drying up.

It's been 4 weeks and 2 days since I originally came in contact with it, and I can still see the faint spots all over my forearms. My legs still show a bit of discoloration, but they are slowly fading as well.

Keep yourself rubbed down with denatured alcohol.

That will dry out the oils and kill the itch (as long as you do not have any open scratches).

At least you didn't get poison sumac. My yard is covered with it, no matter how much I spray. I get it once a year and end up in the ER getting a shot, and then having to follow that with a 2 week regimen of Prednisone. The shit makes you want to dive into an airplane propeller just to stop the itching. Or maybe that's the roid rage.

ehhh I hate poison ivy.
Back when I was about 15 years old I was covered from ankle to just above my knees with poison ivy rashes ... also had it on both hands and arms and on my face ... took about a month to recover.... went to the Dr and they gave me an oral steroid to take as well as continuing to take benedryl every day .... ugh .... the horror!

Get to your nearest drug store ASAP and pick up a tube of Tecnu Extreme Medicated Poison Ivy Scrub. I had a monster case earlier this year and tested the Tecnu vs Calamine lotion on each leg and the Tecnu wins hands down. Calamine does a decent job at itch control, but Tecnu makes the rash disappear much faster.
