so you can get servers from dell at like $299 after MIR.

tell me, whats wrong with getting a P4 2.26GHz server, instead of a home regular machine. for e.g. the 400SC has a special offer, but its a server.

is there anything WRONG with having a server as a regular home-use computer?

thanks!

The only thing wrong is some servers have special hardware limitations like they might not have an AGP slot.

But they have more memory slots and support more memory. They also contain other optimizations.

To answer your question, you can use a regular computer as a server. There's nothing wrong with it.

. . . or require low-profile and/or ECC RAM. But if you read the specs carefully and it meets your needs, go for it.

Some of these would make great PCs for parents or grandparents that (unlike my mom) don't play Unreal Tournament and aren't looking forward to Half-Life 2.

I just bought a Dell server for my dad's office (around 4 months ago), and it has a P4 2.4 GHz. Has three fans. One CPU fan, one PSU fan, and one 120 mm case fan. The thing is very quiet, and has given us no problems.

This deal you are talking about has an AGP slot but no supported cards for it. Basically, you modify it and while it won't void the warranty, there is no tech help for you. Also, theform factor is larger. Many folks want there compter to be present but not seen, or as a laptop.

This one has nice upgrading potential. It is a deal. Read the on-line guides about this system.
