pointer keeps moving by itself

im not talking about the slow wander that happens with optical mouses. i mean a very sudden and direct line for the left edge. It will make a bee line for the start buuton then straight up the edge to the file menu. it does this every couple of minutes. I went to the mouse settings and found nothing. I ran anti virus and ad aware and nothing. Im stumped. any help is appreciated
