Me and my brother are probably going to upgrade to a Point of View 7800GT card, but as always we want silent computers, which usually means a heatpipe solution. Does anyone know if the Zalman ZM80D-HP + Optional Fan is possible to use with these cards?

Umm, I am not so sure. The HS would have to be Ginormous. I think bigger than the Zalman. Have you looked into water cooling?
I would have recommended the Arctic Cooling NV5 rev.3 but they were recalled. I don't know if they have re released them yet.

I am using a ZM80D-HP + Optional fan on my x800xl right now, it is cooler than with the original heatsink (which I estimate to be roughly comparable to that of the 7800GT). The question is in regard to the mounting of the heatsink, if it is compatible with the mounting holes (are there mounting holes, at least 3 mm) on the 7800GT.

http://kylning.com/info.php?cPath=77_89&products_id=778 <- There you can see a picture of the set. I could not link directly to the heatsink at www.zalmanusa.com, unfortunately.

Yes, I know. However I would like to be able to exchange the fan if I want to. That is hardly possible with the VF700. That is why I am looking into the ZM80D as a first option.
