Podcasts: I'm not getting it

So I want to subscribe to NPR's Talk of the Nation Podcast on Itunes, because its seriously the most edifying, least partisan and least full of crap Editorial program I can find anywhere. Unfortunately, its often on when I'm either busy doing something else or not driving (the car being the place I most often listen to the radio).

So I figured I would subscribe to the show on Itunes, set it to "download all" and "Keep all unplayed episodes". Cool. I hit refresh and it downloads one of the 30 available episodes. I can manually download each episode but that's, frankly, retarded. I know Itunes sometimes requires some unusual settings to get it to do what you want, but I'm really not sure what the hell I'm missing here.

What Episodes do I want? ALL OF THEM. When should they be deleted? After I've listened to them.

Guide my hands, virtual genius bar, for at this moment they are on the verge of strangling the cutest, fluffiest bunny you'd ever see.

When you subscribe to a podcast, it only auto-downloads episodes from the day you subscribed and newer; it ignores episodes older than that. At the same time, the "When New Episodes Are Available" setting only tweaks what iTunes does when additional episodes come out: by default it only grabs the newest one (so if you didn't launch iTunes for a few days, it would skip the oldest "new" episodes), whereas download all would grab those episodes you missed.

Old episodes from before your subscription need to be manually downloaded (there should be a Get All button somewhere).
