Since there are many PocketPC users here, I thought that it would be useful to share this with you guys. Skype is a VoIP software that has the best sound quality I've dealt with, along with a great interface. Today they released a version for PocketPC handhelds with WiFi.

I'm planning to buy a PDA soon, and if this works as advertised, it might be the 'icing on the cake' that I needed. Anyone who tests this out, please report here your findings.

Hi kuk,

Thank you SO very much for finding out about Pocket Skype! My dad and I were just discussing ways on staying in touch once I go to college in Aug/Sept. We started looking at ~$30+ cell phone plans, but I thought those are quite costly and possibly uncecessary.

Next thing you know, I find this wonderful thread, install Skype on my dad's PC and Pocket Skype on my e755 :) The program says it needs WinMobile 2003, wifi, and a 400MHz chip. Thankfully, I just upgraded to my e755 a few weeks ago, and it has all of this stuff.

After creating an account on the PC, I can launch the program quite easily on the PDA (only complaint is that launching the prog takes a few seconds). I can easily add contacts and call them up. Once I turned my PDA upside down, it worked well as a handset (the speaker is at the bottom; mike at top). The voice quality is very good for VoIP! The lag is there, but it's not significant. Everything is very clear, though I don't know if this is because the program is P2P which means the data may not even be leaving our house.

Nonetheless, I'm very pleased. Two thumbs up :)

Oh yea, be sure you do buy a Pocket PC that has wifi, a 400MHz chip, and WinMobile 2003 so you'll be able to use Skype :)
