I looking at buy a Pocket PC hand held. I need to open and view documents, spread sheets, and wireless network access (802.11b). I also will like to use it for terminal services if possible. I have been looking at the new Dell Axim X3i and the HP ipaq h4155. I have heard good things about the ipaq and almost nothing about the Axim. My question which of the two is better? Or is there a better option?

Thx for the info

what's your budget? if you have a big budget you may want to wait for the new Toshiba e805 to hit the streets, it's the first PDA to have a full VGA screen and all the other goodies like integrated WiFi/Bluetooth/ 400 MHz PXA263, etc

I quite informed on screen technology.
but does
QVGA= 64K colors and VGA = 2 million colors?

BTW, the toshiba that Raynor mentions has a estimated retail value of $599.

I have a Dell axim x5, ipaq 2215 and a viewsonic v37.

The Ipaq 2215 is definently the best. Comes with more integrated software, dual memory slots (SD, CF) and it looks better.

That's funny. My Zaurus SL-C760 PDA has a VGA screen and I've had it for months.

>QVGA= 64K colors and VGA = 2 million colors?

QVGA=320x240 resolution and VGA=640x480 (or swap x and y for PDAs that can't rotate), has nothing to do with colors.

the new toshiba is a brick. go with the new iPAQ, the h4155. checkout www.brighthand.com for plenty of user reviews for every PPC model.

If you think you'll be buying alot of accesories, an Ipaq has more to choose from. Toshiba seem to always be on the cutting edge but their product support (such as offering upgrades to new OS's) hasn't been very good.

The new Ipaq coming out with the integrated keyboard and wifi looks good.

I say Dell or one of the higher-end Toshibas. Those are really the only two I'd consider if I was in the market. I likely will be sometime next year, and I'll probably wind up with a Dell X5 or something.

Note that it may be much cheaper getting a handheld and a separate CF wifi card. Yes, the X5 is a brick, but it's cheap. Yes, the 2215 is expensive, but it's good. CF wifi cards have been sold by Cusa for $30 numerous times.

The iPAQ 4155 is the way to go. See this thread with my new Thumboard attached:

http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=92981

WiFi + Bluetooth + 1000 mAh battery + sync connector that is compatible with ALL other iPAQs + HP's great 3rd party support = NO CONTEST :D

And the e805 is a BRICK!!! If you want VGA, wait till Windows Mobile 2004. It will have native support for 640x480 and landscape/portrait modes. Doesn't make since to buy one early when the full OS support isn't even there yet:
