Hey. I'm buying my friend's comp from him. It's 2 months old and I'm gonna change the video card before I go off to college. I was wondering which card would be better (look at topic). The comp specs are the following:

ANTEC Server Chasis (Workstation Tower) Model SX1040B Black; Antec Original P4 400 watt Power Supply black case
Intel Pentium4 1.8A GHz 512K Socket 478 Processor 400MHz Processor Bus
Asus P4T-E Intel 850 Chipset 400MHz FSB Socket 478 Motherboard
Samsung 256MB PC800 NonECC RAMBUS RDRAM RIMM
Lite On 32x12x40 CDRW Model LTR-32123S BLACK Color
Lite-On 16x DVD Model LTD-163 Black
60 GD Seagate and a 30 gig hd

He has a radeon 7000 or 7500 on there now and I would like to change it.

the ti4200 64mb is hardly justified if you look at the price difference with a radeon 8500.
hell, you will get a 128mb radeon 8500 with a free Belkin nostromo n50 gamepad for the price of a 64mb pny ti4200 [170$] at buy.com....and the 128mb 8500LE is even cheaper at 145$ or so. [also at www.buy.com ]
i think the 8500 offers more value-for-money right now. and i guess a ti4200 buyer is one who is looking for value. the ti4200 is a great card nevertheless. myself, im saving up for a gainward goldensample 128mb ti4200 !

It usually means limited edition and in this case the le version MAY be clocked slower (or in some cases they are faster but that is rare)... you can get an made by ATI radeon 8500LE oem at newegg for just over $100 and most of the people buying them have been getting there default memory clocked at 300mhz...

I would say do not buy from a different brand (ie. buy one that is made buy ATI) and you will be very happy.

Either card would be a good choice. The Radeon is cheaper and does come with S-video, DVI outputs also. The 4200 is a bit faster in most apps. The Newegg 8500LE 64mb for $99 is clocked @250/275mem. so it deviates from the old 250/250 origional LE spec.

le = light edition
or so i used to think.
im going for the radeon8500 non-LE [275/275] 128mb+ 'free' nostromo n50 gamepad for 174$...changing over from the gainward ti4200...what do you ppl think ?
my gaming will be 800x600 high detail but i want it to run unreal2 *well*.
