I was a little skeptical too. I have had the same card for two weeks and LOVE it. It upgraded
a Radeon LE and I am very impressed. 3d quality is just as good as my old Radeon, and better
if you consider that I can run the highest resolutions my monitor will allow, and my older games
that use older DX and 16 bit textures work much better too. 2D is excellent, and much better
than I expected. It looks as good as my matrox G450.
Have you even tried it yet? Since it arrives today, just put it in and see for yourself.
Tips: Use 64mb or 128 mb agp aperature. 256 will not work. I say this based on my own experiences
and others on nvnews.net forums.
I found 27.70 to work best for me using win98. I downloaded them from warp2search. If you really need
a link I can get you one (PM me). At nvnews.net forums, some people with win2k and XP prefer 27.52 drivers.
I was going to try them but they weren't available for win98 when I checked.
Rivatuner was the best tweaker for me.
I did a fresh install of windows and all drivers before I really used it, but it did work with my old win install after taking out
Radeon LE.
I have played Descent 3, Mechwarrior 4, Battlezone 2, Quake3, and some 2d strategy games. All worked as they were
supposed to with amazing performance and image quality. Older games that only give you the option to run at 1024X768
such as Mechwarrior 3 look much better with 4xs AA and 8X anisotropy (use rivatuner to access anisotropy in direct3d games).
Thanks for reminding me about the 3d glasses. I havn't even tried them yet.
Conclusion: You should at least try it. You should be able to return the product if your not happy and the 4400s are really
keeping up with the 4600s even if they are not as overclockable. I was very skeptical about buying it and am more than
pleased. Since I have another computer to do my 2d stuff on I was even willing to except lower 2d quality, but that didn't
turn out to be the case so I am very pleased with my purchase and my gaming experiences since I have had the card.
Hope that little mini-review helps you decide what to do.
