Well, I'm finally here at college and I finally got my computer up and running, somewhat.

What happened for a while was that whenever i booted my computer it would take a couple of restarts until it actually booted normally.

I removed a stick of ram (PNY tech, relabled samsung on samsung) and was left with one, and the computer seems to boot normally and everything.

win2k and xp would have problems installing and i think the ram is to blame, but i have a couple of questions:

How come 2 sticks of ram (256 megs each, pc2100 on an Abit IT7 MAX, P4 2.26) would make the computer unstable, yet one wouldnt?

I know the answer: a bad stick of ram. I ran a TON of memory benchmarks on both the sticks and they didnt seem to have any problems or anything. I ran stress tests meant just for the memory and had them loop and no problems would arise at all. Also, once i booted the computer with both sticks of ram in it, it would run just fine, so how come it would only mess up when i tried to install/boot an OS?

Anyway, I've been typing too much, thanks in advance for the replies...also, should i get new RAM? Any suggestions...I can't live w/256megs (even in 98se)
