i just got the fx 5200 to replace my old asus gforce 3 vid card. i was happy w/the gforce 3 but i got a flat panel monitor and needed a dvi out.

i got the newest drivers from the nvidia website and threw it all in, no big deal.

now CS wont run, and quake3 has so many artifacts its hardly playable. i loaded up splinter cell, it came with the card.. that game wont run for crap either. my old card ran fine but looked like ass hooked up to the flat panel with the analog output...

I call dibs on his hard drive(s)!!

Anyways, try to return the card (it's almost obviously bad) and get a FX5700 Ultra or a 5900 non-ultra (can be found for around $200 after rebates at Best Buy\Circuit City) or a Radeon 9600 Pro ($150 after rebates at Best Buy) 9600XT, or a 9700/9800 (MUCH better than the 9600s).
My preferential order would be 9800/9700, 5900, 9600 Pro/XT, 5700 Ultra

Or even a ti4200 or 9100 if you can find one. Those will beat the 5200 pretty much hands down. But if you got the money to spend, the choices above are excellent price/perf cards.

Yeah, forgot about the GF4 Ti series, they're still great cards if you can get one for about $100 or so, but don't try using AA on them unless you like a slideshow.

This person owns a fx 5200 ultra which performs almost at the same level as a gf4 ti4200. The fx 5200 ultra isn't that bad it's just too expensive for the performance it delivers, anyway I think you should return your fx5200 ultra because it's obviously defective.

I do agree that the gf4 ti4200 is a better upgrade than any of the geforce fx line upto the 5600 ultra r2.

thing is i couldnt find a ti400 local that had dvi out. the analog looked like crap on my lcd monitor. thats the only reason i got the 5200... i mean, in all the tests i have seen it did better than my old card and it was 100 bux.

i tried to run need for speed hot persuit 2 and porsche unleashed today and they run good its just they have massive ammounts of artifacts and crap all over the place. do yall really think i have a bad card? hell i was happy w/my gforce 3 but like i said, analog on the lcd monitor is crap

i dont have the money for one of the bling spec fx5700-5900 etc, if i did i would have gotten one of those in the first place.

if it matters here is the rest of my system
asus a7m266 w/athalon 1.33ghz
394mb ram
60gb ibm hd
creative sblive platnium
prolly some other crap that dont matter

everything was top of the line when i built it 2 1/2 years ago
