OK you have all probably seen the deals on the above cards this weekend for $70.99 to $79.99 in various stores.

Now most people are trying to source the x 8 128MB card that come in the 64MB box - but does the extra RAM video card actually perform any better and/or does the 64MB card normally overclock higher?

Anybody with any experience of both cards - I'm sitting here with an unopened 64MB flavour which I may take back tonight and try to pick up a 128MB version :)

Some manufacturers put faster rated ram chips on the 64MB version, just depends. I personally would go for the 128MB version, even if it overclocks lower.

The performance difference between the PNY GF4 64mb and 128mb is virtually the same in most games. Even PNY's own test results on the back of the box indicates a performance difference of a whopping 2% between the two. HOWEVER, in games that can utilize more than 64mb of memory, the 128mb has been known to outperform the faster clocked 64mb version by a noticeable margain. Personally I'd get the 128mb if at all possible for future games that plan to utilize more video memory. If not, hey the GF4 64mb is still a killer card for the price.

Bah, benchmarks are a bunch of fud. Try fragging 16 bots in Unreal Tournament, the 128MB card makes more than just a noticable improvement over the 64MB counterpart.

I agree with you and your right, just pointing out that the benchmarks don't even come close to showing the real difference in a real game with much more intensive graphics than a mundane benchmark. They show 2fps difference. Playing at 1600 x 1200 no FSAA and no anisotropic it can be the difference between being 100% smooth and starting to get stutters and hesitations.

Well I took the unopened card back to Circuit City and exchanged it for a "stickerless" version - walked out to the car and opened up the box to find that I am now the owner of a 128MB card :D

Good for you, GTD! That makes up for all the trouble you've been through lately with your ATi card!

Uhm...well I still have it and I even ordered another one just to see if it is the card to blame...ATI sent me an RMA for for it too.

I often build PC's for friends/colleagues etc so I'm not too worried about the Radeon it will get used at some point - it was a great card in my KT7A motherboard too :)

This GF4 deal was just too good to pass up :D

Thats two 64MB cards that I have bought - and received 128MB flavours ;)
