PNY GeForceFX 5600 256MB selling @$249.99..wow

whats there to 'wow' about?

I doubt this card outperforms the 128mb version by much and considering that you could get a non-pro 9700 for about $230 which would easily out-perform it, the 5600 is too little too late. Even a 9500 pro ($175) outperforms it for the most part, and most 9500 pros can be mod'ed to 9700 levels.

Nvidia is clearly the loser this time about, no point in buying any of their cards for the most part.

I don't care if the card had 2GB of DDR-SDRAM and cost $1.99. It's texel fillrate is pathetic: 1.4 gigatexels/second. It looks like nVidia's going backwards. I'll stick to my much more powerful MSI GeForce4-Ti4400. DirectX 9 be damned! :gift:

The 9600 has a 4x1 arch/128 bit memory bus just like the NV 5600, and is ATI's first .13 micron tech. Does that mean that ATI is going backwards too? If ATI would release a 9600 with 256 MB VRAM for $200 then I would think that was a good deal too, better than the 5600 even. Anyways, the card is $250 almost everywhere so this isn't even an issue. I wouldn't buy it.

The 256 MB VRAM really appeals to me because I have a 64 MB Ti 4200 and know what not having enough memory can do to performance. Do you really think that Doom 3 or HL2 won't eat every single bit of the 128MB VRAM on current cards and ask for more? Even UT2003 uses more than 128MB at its highest settings.

256 is overkill esspecially for an 5600 stupid if anyone buys this card. go for 9700 np it would kill this card

I guess I'm stupid then, I just bought it yesterday at BB.

I had a G2Ti Pro VT (MSI 8836) and wanted something a little more powerful that had VIVO as well (4500 3dmark2001 SE)

Bought the FX5200 (It didn't have VIVO but I thought it was worth a shot since it was only $100. (7500 3dmark2001 SE)

Returned that and tried the FX5600 since it had the VIVO and 256 MB Ram. 3dmark boosted to about 8500 which is a good enough of an improvement for me but now I have to return it because I can't get the capture to work and spent an hour on the phone with BFG Tech support who wasn't able to get it working either and that was one of the main reasons I bought it. (Good response time from their 24 hour tech support however, that was a pleasant surprise).

If I can get the capture to work I'll keep it otherwise it's off to ATI.

Even my 64mb ti4200 gets over 10k on my systems stock settings and that only cost me $115 shipped for an ABIT OTES. Overclocked I am over 14k
