Just don't forget to register the SSD within 90 days of purchase to get the 3 year warranty.

Nice OP. My son was asking last night what he should get since I was upgrading the Spare PC. I saw this but the price was way more than $100. Dropped over night.

Didn't you already get two 240GB V300 drives in the other thread?

I would have been all over these 480GB drives, if I hadn't already bought four of the V300 240GB and three of the UV300 TLC drives.

Interestingly, the UV300 drives are supposed to use a Phison S10. Which, I don't know how well it performs with TLC NAND, but the PNY CS2211 drives (MLC) also use that controller, and they have *excellent* benchmarks. (Edit: I believe that the Phison S10 controller is quad-core, too.)

$99 seems to be the new price point for 480GB SSD, there were a couple of different deals at that price yesterday.

Query: To the average user (like myself) does controller type, etc. really matter? I'm looking for reliability and price over getting something that is a fraction of a milisecond faster.

Controller does matter somewhat if you're looking for reliability, but this is become less and less of an issue as time goes on. Two years ago, buying one really revolved around knowing the controller. I think general rule of advice is the cheapest cheapo might be worth googling the controller to see if any red flags pop up. Or controllers that are somewhat old.

I got Two V300's yes but for that Old Phenom system. Boot drive and Game drive.

My son wants to upgrade his old 120gb boot drive with this threads drive.
