Just got around to installing the card, it is this model (minus the game)

PNY 8800GT

The model # is identical to another PNY card with the reference cooler but this one seems to have a specially designed cooler and a blue board. I am up and running and floored with the fact that I can now turn on every sort of eye candy imaginable and still tear through CoD4 :)

That is what amazed me about the 8800GT. I went from an 8800GTX to the GT because I wanted less heat and power and some cash in my hand. So when I got the GT I was expecting to lower some of my settings for graphics in some games, and to my amazement the GT pretty much can play all my games maxed out with AA and AF at 1680x1050 no sweat. All this from a $150 card vs. a $500 nice :)

All the prices on the 8800GT's and 3870's are really dropping, I guess in light of the new video cards coming out in a few weeks....I wonder just how much faster the next gen will be....we can only wait and see :)

NewEgg has an EVGA GeForce 8800GT 512MB with a dual-slot cooler for $159.99 (free shipping, no rebate). That's a few dollars less than the PNY at BestBuy if you don't have a coupon and you have to pay sales tax (and you have drive to the store, etc.). I'd say it just depends on which type of GPU cooler you prefer. (According to reviews, the PNY gets hot unless you use a utlity like NTune to raise the default fan speed.)

With the release of the new cards from ati and nvidia coming in like 2 weeks the price of the older card should continue to drop :) which is good for us...

i bought once since my ATI x700 crapped out. It's way too much power for what I need... it'll last me another 4+ years
