For those of you who have installed your new video cards, how is the fan noise? Tom's Hardware said it was good, FrizQuadrata said it was bad. Anyone else have an opinion (I've not installed mine yet).

The reviews at newegg also say it is loud in gaming.
That and I would take a randoms person word here then "Toms". 😛

My local store said they had some in-stock. I ordered online.

[BRAG]Went in to pick it up, they handed me a BFG 7900GT OC, with the $329.99 sticker still on it. Receipt I signed still shows $149+tax.[/BRAG]

Omg I am SO jealous. When I was in compUSA getting ready to check out, I was just sitting there thinking, "Ahhh I shoulda grabbed a 7900GT box, they never would have known"..

They wouldn't have either.. all they did was look at the picture I printed off to see the price...

It's fairly loud, and turns on at strange times. I loaded a video file, and the fan starts churning away.. But all in all, for $125ish dollars, I'm not going to complain a whole lot.

how loud ? Loud is so subjective. I am trying to build as quiet workstation as I can, so i think to me, passive cooling is the way to go.

Thanks to the complaints about fan noise and rumors of better then expected Wii quantities, I've managed to resist. I was so close to gettting 2 for SLI.

if you search up some actual reviews, this card is quiet and has cool temps. if its just based on newegg reviews, the first post says it is quiet.

Well if you know how loud Asus' crappy northbridge fan is, it's a lot louder than that. And it revs up at seemingly random times. I managed to shut it up by installing the 9128 drivers. Now it doesn't rev up at all, runs at like 65', but at least it's quiet. 😛

ya it revs up when you game, and sometimes when u load a video file to watch, not too loud, but you can hear it.. as long as it stays cool I'm happy.

I went Wed and used the 12% with no problems.
I then tried to use the Bestbuy bux but for some reason the 12% disappeared.
So he had to get the manager again and he tells me you can't combined.
I got a little angry and left.

Anyway, I went back today and used all the bestbuy bux and bought the card for $60.
$150 for this card is just fantastic especially when I had bestbuy bux to blow.

I could not resist . Got 2 thurs. nite -$5 best buy bucks=$309 OTD. Installed them in SLI on my NI8 board and all is well. Was funny to see 50 kids camped out in the rain waiting for a chance to get 25 PS3 in the A.M.

I grabbed one. It's not my "perfect" choice for a video card, but it's darn close and about $75 less than the other options I was considering. Thanks OP--got it with a 12% off coupon for about $140 OTD.

Thank heavens that 12% BB coupon Reward Zone coupon expired Nov 15th: I was driving over to buy this card just now, and noticed I'd waited 3 days too long. 'Turned around and saved another $150 by skipping the whole deal! [Sigh... how long can I put up with my 6150 onboard graphix tho'....]

I got a 12% coupon good thru sunday... but I got it on the 16th, so I would have had to open a can of whoop a$$ on the bb guy if it expired on the 15th.

thanks op, got one yesterday with 12% coupon, upgraded from a 7600gt, and got about 30% better score in 3dmark 2006. did cost me an extra $50 to upgrade my psu, but great deal none the less

Picked one up. Forgot to bring the coupon but didn't want to drive back/forth again. Still a good deal, just not as good. Replaced an XFX 7600GT 590/1600. My 3DMock06 went from 3509 to 4161. Not bad for going from absolute fastest 7600GT to absolute slowest 7900GS. Fan revs up a couple of times on POST, then settles down to a suprisingly low noise level. Kicks up again during 3DMock, but I've had a different 7600GT that was noisier. Temps seem okay, in the 50º range at idle, up to the 70º range in 3DMock.

I'm tempted to OC that puppy.

I'm also tempted to just run at stock, but put a passive dual heatpipe cooler on it.

I think I can get a decent price for my XFX 7600GT being that it is the fastest one on the market and in a sexy black PCB that makes it 2% faster by color alone.

That's akin to putting a VTEC sticker on your car. 😀
