I love that CompUSA. Nobody ever goes there. :)

Pick it up. If you're trying to make a ton of money on EBay, then skip it. If you want the best bang for the buck card, then get it now.

I also picked one up on Black Friday that had the loose capacitor. I never took the
card out of the packaging. Took it back to Compusa and got in on the Best Buy BFG
deal. I was able to determine that the capacitor was not an extra. I could see
where it came off the back of the card. This is certainly a better deal than the
Best Buy deal if you already own HL2 and Farcry. I owned neither, so the Best
Buy deal worked great for me.

Anyone know where I can find some benchmarks comparing the 6800, the 6800 OC, and the 6600 GT?

Or if not, how do they compare to each other?

Again, could have been a bad unit YMMV.

And yes, these are the same cards with the "missing/floating" capacitor issue. Be sure to inspect yours carefully if you buy it.

I got a bad PNY 6800GT. You know what I did? I warranty RMA'd it to PNY and they sent me a brand new one that works perfectly. I don't know why you guys need to make everything so hard for yourselves
Since when is an RMA easier than a return for refund and new purchase at BB?

PNY must be the most amazing company on the planet if they could complete an RMA in two hours (which is how long it took me to do my swap). How long did you wait for your new 6800GT?

Plus I get a 10% GPU overclock on the BFG card without having to void the warranty (which is real lifetime and not PNY's "lifetime").

The point of my post was to inform. I noticed on HOCP forums that there was some (more than one, less than all) frequency of missing capacitors. So, if you buy one of these cards, look for a missing capacitor. Fair enough. Second, some were also reporting bad 2D quality. Lo and behold, when I brought my PNY card home and installed it, the 2D was horrible. Thankfully other people were having the same problem, so I knew that it wasn't me and I either got a bum card, or PNY was having a higher frequency of bum cards. I wasn't threadcrapping. I was just trying to return the favour others have done for me by telling people out there to be on the lookout for these potential problems. If their cards don't have a problem, then no worries!

So, by returning it and buying the BFG card from BB (which turned out to be a better deal, BTW -- $200AR including HL2) I actually made it easier on myself. Who'da thunk???

Benchies comparing the 6800 and the 6600GT are floating around (FiringSquad).

Basically, if you like 4x AA and 8x AF (and since I've turned it on, I never want to turn it off!), the 6800 is your card. 6600GTs perform slower in most cases (especially with AA and AF turned on) and this $220 PNY deal is better than any price I've found on the 6600GT AGP. The PCI-E 6600GTs are cheaper because there are more of them out there. The 6600GT AGPs seem to be in short-supply so they're priced higher than the PCI-Es.

The 6800 OC has the same speed memory as the 6800 but the GPU is clocked up about 10%. You won't notice much of a performance difference from that. The goodness in the 6800OC is that BFG's warranty is truly lifetime and not like PNY's "lifetime" (at PNY, "lifetime" = as long as they're making the card).

Hope that helps.

So you're comparing this deal to a deal that's already dead?

Fine. I apologize to everybody for posting this deal. bznotins is, in fact, correct when he implies it's easier to build a time machine and go get the Best Buy deal for this card instead of potentially dealing with a warranty RMA as waiting a few days for a replacement is a nightmare scenario. In the future, I'll refrain from posting any other deals on video cards. I know I only have like 4500 posts, but it's not like I can't still learn a thing or two from the junior members....especially how to markup my posts.

You could have also RMA'd the PNY AND gotten the BB deal and sold the PNY return for profit.....who'da thunk.

Whoa, I bow to your senior-memberness, super-numerous-postness.

I never suggested that anyone should go out and get the BB deal. It is dead, like you said. There was no implication, you just inferred (incorrectly) that the BB deal could be considered a replacement.

My first post was to say "watch out for missing capacitors and bad 2D quality". You took issue with how I dealt with the problem (return and buy a different deal) and suggested that I should have RMA'd it -- which was ridiculous.

Now, for people buying the card today and finding missing capacitors or bad 2D, I would suggest returning it to the store for a replacement -- which also is easier than your suggested plan of action (RMA). I may be a junior member (oh how I love post-count snobbery) but I wouldn't have (and didn't) suggest that they go for the BB deal. I was just commenting on what I did.

And it is true, I could have RMA'd the PNY card, and sold the replacement. That's the kind of thing many people do (buy great deals and re-sell on eBay), and it is cool if you want to invest the time. I don't.

That's funny cause it would have taken you less time to pack and label your card than it did to write that unclever retort.

Wow, first you have superhuman RMA skils (under 2 hours) -- and now I see your incredible attributes include light-speed packing and shipping!

It took me about 2 minutes to write that reply. I only wish I could list, sell, pack, label, transport to FedEx, and ship a package in 2 minutes! I'd go public and be rich!

Rich, I tell you, rich!

Yes, I figured something like this would come up. 100% deserving on my part. Consider my pie-hole duly shut!

Apologies to all for getting so far OT.

Forgive me for being a neophyte, how do you unlock pipes on a Nvidia card.

This has been OOS Saturday, Sunday, Monday and today at all 5 local stores (within 40 miles). Checked instore at the closest one and this card hasn't been instock since BF and they don't expect more. How are people ordering them online?

I also think that this is BS, knowing that most stores don't have them or aren't going to get them. False advertising!!! All the associates in the store could do was shrug!

We have not had any instock in the KC area either.

They don't even have empty spaces on shelfs were the cards would have been stocked. A little fishy...

Now that you mention it, your right, there wasn't a shelf space or tag for it at my local store either.

PNY RMA'd my Ti-200 three and a half years after I purchased it from Newegg. The only comment the guy made was that it was a pretty old video card. I said "Yeah, but they don't make them like that any more!" They sent me a spanking new card! Wait 3 1/2 years and try calling BFG, if their still in business.

Why knock BFG? Can you speak about them from experience? If you had a specific
problem with them then please tell us, otherwise just bashing them without premise
is uncalled for. Likewise, even though I own the BFG, I am not going to knock PNY's
customer service because I have not dealt with them. I can comment on their quality
control. My first 6800 was the PNY which had a loose a capacitor in the box. Needless to
say, my first impression of PNY was not favorable. Again, if you have a problem with
BFG, tells why.

I have. I RMA'd my TI-4600 to them a few months ago because the fan wasn't working anymore. They had a new card to me within a few days.
