PNY 6600 Vanilla AGP Fan Noise ?

I purchased a very lightly used 256MB PNY 6600 (vanilla) AGP video card to install in a relative's computer. They will use it occasionally for gaming but not a lot.

The card will be going inside an Antec 3700AMB case with NF2 & AthlonXP 2400+ that has an 120mm exhaust fan and and an 80mm cpu fan (both pretty quiet). Their current video card is passively cooled.

Is the fan on that card going to be relatively loud so that I should plan on some aftermarket cooling for it (i.e. Zalman)? Does the fan speed change with load like lots of the newer cards out now?

I'll tolerate increased noise if it's only during gaming.

Thanks,
CxP

Won't be that bad.

If anything think about grabbing a VF700 or VF900

I thought there were passive 6600's

Thanks for your feedback!

I could not find any passive AGP 6600's but maybe there are some somewhere.

I heard I can use RivaTuner to control the fan as another option. Are there many instances where RivaTuner will not work right with respect to controlling fan speed?

Thanks,
CxP

See if you can get RivaTuner to slow the fan down for you. I'm not sure how compatible it is with the 6600's...

I dont think it works with vanilla 6600's , i might be thinking of the fact that they dont have temp sensors

i am really not sure

Dayum I wish I could get some firm feedback as to whether RivaTuner will work to control the fan speed on the PNY vanilla 6600. Otherwise, I may have to end up using a passively cooled 5500 instead.
