Green and purple vertical lines are often present if I have video at all. Could this be an overheating issue? If so what are some good aftermarket cooling options?

yes that is a heat thing. a zalman vf7000-alcu is a great one and highly recomended. better yet, get a 6600gt for 160 dollars. that is your best coolign option and performance too.
