what is it that limits the amount of memory you can use in a laptop? If I thought it would work, I might pick one of these up, but according to gateway my laptop (450SX4) can only use 512MB total, and it already has 256.

Well it depends for your laptop if it support up to 512 MB, there can be a chane that it doesn't support one stick of 512 memory. My Compaq will take up to 1G but have to use 2 stick of 512 MB. Your laptop's user manual will usually tell you what kind and how much of memory it takes.

PNY is just a box brand, in most cases - they just re-badge stuff. I've had a PNY Geforce-3 card for a couple of years, and never had a problem with it. I looked it up on line once, and found out the OEM was MSI. I haven't had a chance to use their memory, but I wouldn't pass it up if I did. It carries a lifetime warranty, just like kingston, crucial, corsair, and the other big names.

People over bensbargain said the rebate form doesn't match this memory and PNY may not honor the rebate. Anyone have any ideas??????

I bought this and chose instore pickup and its definitely a price mistake somehow. The item on the SKU is actually the desktop equivalent so Best Buy substituted for me Kingston Value Ram and took off the 30 dollar rebate in store. So I ended up walking out of the store paying 59.99 + tax for Kingston PC2700 SoDIMM. I didn't even make a fuss or anything, first time I've ever seen Best Buy do anything close to Customer Service like this.

I went to BB (Chicago North Ave. store) and they don't have it, so order it online around 4 pm and choose pick up at the same store. Got it email a few hours later saying my order is ready pickup, will see if it is the SO-Dimm. Keep my finger cross.

I will head over to my nearest BB to see if I can still get this...I'll let you know if it's still there (says in stock on BB's website for my store). This is actually a really good deal - I just ordered the same RAM (almost the same anyway) from crucial for just over a 100. I'm calling to cancel...

post your results... it's a pain for me to get to a BB, but it'll be worth it if this pans out...

What a f-ing disaster! I spent about an hour at BB trying to get a hold of this memory. As it turns out, no one at the BB I was at hand any idea about this RAM or where to get it (I went to one in NYC). They checked the other store in the City and did not turn up anything. The figgin' item wasn't even in their systems. It was a total waste of time - and as my order with Crucial has already been cancelled, I am open to suggestions as to other options, or I'll just re-do my order....Once again though, unless I just had bad luck, it seems this is just gonna be a waste of time for everyone else.

Went to best hell today as I am expected they bring up the desktop memory, so I told the CS lady I ordered the notebook memory not the desktop. I show her the print out of my confirmation and a print out of the website. This check the product # on the desktop memory and keep tell me that is what I ordered. I told her to look at the confirmation and it stated it is a "notebook memory". I don't know which part she dont understand for 15 mins she keep telling me I ordered the desktop memory. My patient went out and tell in the confrimation I ordered the notebook memory, and am I suppose to check each products # when I buy something. Than she call the manager somehow this lady find one 512 memory, I ask the manager if he can look at the system and get another one. The system is showing 20 of them but since the product # of the desktop memory and the notebook memory is the same he don't know if the same thing will happen. Not to mention the bad attitude from the manager. He is like I did something wrong, it is bestbuy.com nothing I can do about it you will have to call besthell.com youself. The CS lady ask me if I just want to take one (the only one they have), the manager step in I can't do that because the order said I ordered 2. Waste my time................!!!! I am going to call besthell.com and bitch at someone because I got bitch on for nothing.......
