I'm looking for a new graphics card and found a PNY OEM GeForce 3 for cheap (its the best I can afford right now). I looked around some already and know it is actually made by MSI but has a lifetime warranty. What I really want to know is how the 2D quality is. While I will be doing some 3D gaming, I will most likely be doing internet/word processing with it more so I want a card that won't be fuzzy. I would appreciate any info yall could give me on this.

Got one, using it right now- 2D is comparable to my old v3 3k :D
I do have a problem with FPS in games, etc. but that may be my setup or simply a bad GPU :(

I have a PNY GF3 Ti200 and a VisionTek GF3 Ti200. The VisionTek definitely has better 2D, both color and clarity. The PNY's color is very good, maybe even a bit better than the VT, but it has some warping in the corners and text isn't as sharp.

FWIW MSI makes PNY's boards.

IMHO Their 2D is average. It's not terribly good but it's useable enough for most people, but it your really concerned about 2D then you can do much better then PNY/MSI.
On the whole I'd say it's perfectly acceptable at 1024x768, decent though it could use improvement at 1280x1024, and distinctly sub-par if you go above that.
If your run at high resolutions I'd certainly pass on PNY, but otherwise their fine.

Thanks for the help so far guys. This is going to be part of a new build, so I don't know what resolution I would run it at, most likely 1024x768 since that is what I use at work. Part of it is going to depend on what the refresh is, because I want to run at a minimum of 85Hz. Does anyone else have an opinion on the 2D quality of PNY/MSI cards?

I pretty much follow with Rands answer, its fine, but there are better. I haven't used any other GF cards other than the pny gf3 ti200, but the differences in 2d quality with my ATi R8500 and the PNY, are like night and day. The text just looks "odd" with the gf3. However, gaming, the pny is prolly on par with it. I mostly use the gf3 for a gaming machine, so i'm happy with it.

Thanks for the info everyone. :D I decided to go ahead and go with a PNY OEM GeForce 3. It was cheap enough I couldn't really refuse. Besides, if it does have bad 2D quality, I'll just wait until after hte GeForce 4's come out and buy a GeForce3 Ti500 for cheap. :)

I could remove the capacitors rogue1979, but I would rather have a working card with slightly fuzzy 2D graphics then a dead card. Thanks for the idea though, but after all the discussion on this board from people who did that, I would rather not.

It is not as dangerous as you think, I modded three different cards all with slightly different capacitor configurations. The trick is just to be able to identify the right ones. Take a look, if it matches the reference card picture it is a no brainer to pull off. I simply used a soldering iron so that if a removed the wrong ones, I could simply put them back on.

Only slightly off topic...
Are there any opinions about the Gainward GeForce2/3 cards, as far as 2D quality is concerned?

I have 2 Gainward Geforce 2 cards. The 2d was great to begin with, now it is even better.
