PM Spamming?

I just got a PM from someone I don't know, suggesting I try some (free for the moment) software from a company he's "working with". Polite, with a "special promo code" that "won't work more than once". He did provide a "real name", although I haven't verified it yet.

Q1: Is this a permitted activity, since it wasn't emailed but was apparently PMed directly to me?
Q2: I'm wondering if I'm the only one who got it, or if he's targeting many users.

I have to admit, what better way to get me to run software on my computer and then tell him I've got it running! (Yes, I'm more than a little paranoid)

I did reply via PM to query the individual (whose profile is NOT published)...I'll post tomorrow, if I get an answer.

Several members have contacted us about this. We PM'd him to ask him to stop his self promotion.

Did you recently post about wanting software like the one that was provided to you or was it out of the blue?

No...out of the blue. He hadn't posted in any threads I had posted in. (has <20 posts as of right now)

Thanks for the feedback. I did get a personal response to my PM, but it could just be he selected all posters w/ >2000 posts. (Since their software is "about community" and clearly we're community minded!)

You can get their ProfileID from the PM they sent you and just substitute it in the profile link to see their profile, even when they have it "hidden."
