So I've been googling this error and I seem to be getting nowhere. Here's the skinny on the situation:
I recently added a new 250 gig maxtor SATA harddrive onto the system. PM 8.0ed it like all my other harddrives and made it NTFS, using the whole harddrive. I moved all the data from my other harddrives to the 250 gig (it's to be a primary media storage device). About 98% of the way done through a 200 gig transfer, the computer crashes and I'm stuck scratching my head.
I try to right click on the disk in Windows Explorer to get to the disk utilities but all that does is crash explorer. I can't even click on the file or edit menus in explorer. I tried going to computer management's disk manager but right clicking on a harddrive crashes that utility also. So finally I go back into PM 8.0 and right click on the disks to check for errors. On almost all of the harddrives with NTFS they get:
"Error 1611 Bad system file name (98)" or some variant of that. These are on brand new harddrives, even on partitions that I just reformatted.
After I googled, the official response by Powerquest is to run chkdsk /f but of course, as all the forums confirm, that does jack. I read somewhere to use diskkeeper pro to defrag the MTF, which I did last night but the same errors are still there.
I'm guessing that this is a fairly common problem with PM 8.0 since there seems to be quite a few incidences. However, there have been no clearcut solutions. Anyone have the answer??
