I want to close down my current account and run away to greener pastures. Are there banks who will allow you to do everything online and execute transactions in quickly (minutes, not days)?

Some transactions take days, regardless of which bank you're with.

Can you be more specific on you're looking for?

6 checks per month and reimbursement on 4 atm fees per month, not to mention 5.25% APY.

I don't think he is looking for internet banks
You would have to mail the checks etc.

You can do almost everything online... you mean EFT funds?

Whatever you do stay far far away from Bank of America! but most 'good' banks now offer UPS quickpost service which if you deposit a check takes 24-48 hours and it gets posted. I know mine does, USAA you should check it out, I am not sure if your eligable but it's worth a try, up to $20 in atm fees refunded every month free EFTS from other banks free first 1000 checks, tons of other bennies...

I don't understand why funds transfers between banks take days. Surely no human is examining each transaction.

If I could deposit checks through the mail that would be great. I hate taking time off of work to deposit checks or change my address, get an ATM card, etc.

It's all about floating the cash. The banks collect interest on the money while it isn't in your hands and hasn't moved to another account fully.

As for checking, I use Citibank. I got a student account, so it is basically fee-free as long as I'm in school. I was also able to open up their 5% E-Savings with it. Also have an HSBC online savings account, but I don't know how their checking is.

Lots of fees and just about the absolute WORST customer service you could get with any product anywhere other than that, nothing really! just google bank of america sucks one day and see how many sites come up, another thing to consider BoA paid out severeal million dollars in hush money from a lawsuit a few years ago because there was a class action suit they almost had ot go to trial about the way they handle check deposits and credits, although their method is claimed to be "legal" is far from ethical. They process debits in the order of largest to smallest instead of order in which they are recieved. You can google more on that too....

i dunno in the time i've had boa i've never had a problem. got them to reverse various fees (cc & checking) that were assessed due to retailers/bills screwing me, no weird fees (WF would charge for every non WF atm useage, i never get charged at all--except the at withdrawal fee from the atm's bank), their online banking works great, and the csr's have always been fine. now watching my g/f's experience w/ WF oth, now there's a stay far far away...

come to think of it her current credit union has been pretty crappy too

if you have fifth third bank around I recommend it. I have been banking with them for 5yrs and haven't had a problem. Everything is quick - if I deposit funds @ the bank, by the time I get home and check it online it has posted.

Yup.
There is I think at least one country in Europe where transfers are same-day between banks (can't remember what country it is though). I think they legislated.

Gotta love the use of wikipedia as a credible source  I have been w/ BoA for over 7 years and have no complaints. As the GoodRevrnd, online works great and the csr's have always been helpful. I have my checking/saving, cc, car and house with them and no issues. They also offer many programs with my company and I know lots of others that are happy as well.

Is your hatred based on personal experience or some other motive??

A little of both, I have had several issues over the relatively short term of ~2 years with them. I make in the ballpark of $75k a year working in none other than the wonderful world of IT, which is to say one would think I would be a somewhat valuble customer as I make deposits in the ballpark of $2500 every other friday. I had all my banking going through them which included personal banking as well as retirement and my auto loan, till they shafted (or started to) me and then routinely couldn't explain or give definitive answers on why certain transactions occurred the way they did on my account so I moved EVERYthing out of their bank and am now a much happier consumer for it.

One thing that they wowed me with was the lack of competence of their CSR's. I was told on more than 1 occasion that if I wanted to pay my auto loan by phone it would cost me a "fee" unless I waited until it was more than 4 days late and then I could pay online and not pay this fee. IF I chose to pay online by EFT(on time) the fee would be less.... OK YOU ARE MAKING INTEREST on this loan why on the fvcking face of the planet would I pay more to pay you efficiently (online)???

Since wiki is full of so much mis-information I figured I would attempt to cite other sources, wow imagine that! Theres PLENTY!

"Bank of America Class action" on google

Results 1 - 10 of about 17,500,000 for bank of america class action. (0.07 seconds)

"Bank of america sucks" on google

Results 1 - 10 of about 2,300,000 for bank of america sucks. (0.08 seconds)

"free porn" on google (for comparison)

Results 1 - 10 of about 55,800,000 for free porn. (0.04 seconds)

Which seems odd that bank of america and class action lawsuits is roughly 1/3rd as popular as the (arguably) largest buisness on the internet... which seems to me to be quite a high number no matter how you slice it... It's my guess you probably voted for bush.. eh? I hope you enjoy letting a crooked financial institution freeload off of your hard earned money
