Hello,

My friend has a rig with the following specs:

Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE
Memory: 2 GB XMS3
Mobo: Asus M4N68T-M
On-board graphics chipset: Nvidia Geforce 7025/Nvidia nforce 630a
OS: Windows 7 (64-bit)

Please recommend which games will run on the rig, mainly FPS titles (open to suggestions of older titiles as well) Can it handle Max Payne?

Regards,
Sam25

It'll probably handle Max Payne okay.

I'd really recommend throwing a $30-$40AR video card in there though, something like a GT520 or HD6450. Those aren't amazing cards, but are a gargantuan upgrade over the terrible ancient onboard video. Even better would be a 5670 or 6670, which would be a pretty good match with that CPU and let you play almost any game, albeit not at max detail / super high resolutions.

Yes, I have told him to invest a little and get a more decent GPU. But for now he's stuck with that onboard chip. If someone could recommend a few older FPS titles that he could play.

Duke Nukem 3D (not forever), Doom 1-2, Blood 1 :)

Half-Life 2 might work, at least on release it had a DX7 code path for cards like the Geforce 4mx (= Geforce 2)

Doom 3 and Half Life 2 should run, but maybe not the episodes for half life 2. I remember playing HL2 on Pentium 3 with onboard graphics.

serious sam hd in co-op.
quake live
deus ex.

The games on OnLive scale down very well also. That could be an option. He could also demo the game beforehand to see how it performs. Every friday they have a game on sale for $5.

Thanks guys for all the game recommendations, really appreciate it!

I'll tell him to try Max Payne 1 & 2 and also Half Life 2 on his PC. Hoping the rig will handle them.

The first two thief games might run, as well as System Shock 2.

Those aren't technically FPS, but close enough.

Your friend should take "advantage" of his limitations by playing through the Baldur's gate saga.

counter strike...

Team Fortress might run OK...

Your using a really weak GPU u know that right?

Games are going to be limited on the 3d department... but u could probably run any flash based game on facebook without a hitch.
