Hello
I got some basic questions..for linux (mandrake 7.0)

1. The distribution I installed on my machine is english mandrake 7.0. Is there a way that I can make the web browser (opera5.1/navigator4.7) to display language character other than English (Korean to be exact)? I'm assuming I need to download and install some kind of fonts.. (like I did for my IE when running under win98)but where and how??

2. My oldie ES1869F ISA soundcard is really conflicting with something (I don't know what that can be..)
I hear a lot of noise (I mean.. a..looot) with sound. Where can I find better driver or how can I troubleshoot this? (I tried sndconfig but didn't help much)

3. My cd is connected to the soundcard for music playing. But CD player under x is not working but I can hear the music if I put the headphone directly into the cd rom jack. I'm assuming I put in the cd cable to the wrong one. There is one for panasonic, one for mitsumi and one for sony on the soundcard. There is another connector, but it's too wide and big (so is sony one) for my cable.
But I have AOpen 924E (24X MTRP) cdrom! where should I connect the cable to?
(maybe I connected on the wrong way..)

4. In the Oepra browser (Opera 5.0 for Linux - 20010510 Build 024 -[5]), when I try to send a form in a website, it just doesn't work. I wait and wait and wait..but nuthing happenes. I can't post a message in anandtech forum, I can't login to the hotmail account because of this.
What could be the cause of this and how can I rectify this?
(by the way, I think this browser is buggy as hell.. it crashed many times so far..)

5. Where can I find a broswer like netscape with less buggy and no compatibility issue but not as small as opera?

6. I installed a package that can enable me to use the scroll on my scroll mouse. I think.. I just did it in mandrake update.. But I still can't use the scroll. What else should I do?

7. the onboard Ali M5229 IDE controllers are not recognised..They are displayed as unknown PCI device in the Lothar tree menu :( (so does M1531 cpu-to-pci bridge and M1533 pci to ISA bus bridge)

8. How do I make seperate opera windows to be displayed as ...windows on the tool-bar like in KDE? At the moment, I have to select each window from the windows menu.

9. I was just wondering..how do I make a program shortcut to appear on the start menu in KDE (is that howit's called? :)

10. Where is this damn pdf file viewer? I thought I installed it but I don't know its name.. :( so I don't know how to execute it

11. man.. too many questions.. I'm sorry..

12. Where am I supposed to put my personal files like.. documents, downloaded programs, mp3 files to? There are a lot of..umm..folders..to choose from.. I'm assuming it's bad to save files on the root folder..right?

Well, that's about it.. I would appreciate any help~~

5. Try Mozilla maybe? It seems to be pretty good.

12. How about saving your personal files in /home/you where "you" is your username.

WOW lot o questions, here goes

1) I think to view different lang. you whole system has to be setup to use it. during the install it should ask you

4&5) try mozilla or koqueror

6) try modifying your XFree86 config file to include

Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

in the mouse section

9) right clck on the desktop and select "create link to application" look at the properties of another icon to see what you should setup

10) adobe makes a version of acrobat reader for linux or try "xpdf"

also updgrade to mandrake 8.0 you won't regret it

http://www.linuxnewbie.org great site, lot of info

good luck
