I'm trying to O/C my P4 (i'm very new to o/c'ing)..

I'm running:
P4 1.6GHz
Abit TH7II
512 Mushkin 800 RDRAM (2 x 256)
GF4 TI 4200 @ 300/535

I tried changing the "CPU Operating Speed" to 1700(100) but when i save the settings and reboot it's still at 1.6GHz ...I tried clearing CMOS and doing the previous all over,..I looked in the mobo manual to see if there were any jumpers that might be of some importance to me, but found none...I don't really want to touch the voltage... I don't wanna O/C that much (i'm using stock HSF)..Any suggestions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thx

You are trying to change the multiplier and your processor is multiplier locked which is why it doesn't work. If you want to overclock, you'll need to up your FSB.

you only can change the fsb...in your case..change (100) to (101 or above)
note...can't stress this enough...99% intel chips has multiplier locked...so you can't change that...hence when you change to 1700 (100) meaning you just changed the multiplier to 17x instead of 16x...that's why you can't o/c your system...
HTH 🙂

ahh, it worked 😀 .. weeee.. just bumped it to 1696 for now ... don't know what a safe speed to bring it to is w/stock cooling ...any suggestions?.. i know i should just test it on my own and slowly bump it up until i encounter a problem...

quick question tho, mobo came w/a "thermal sensor header" i wanna hook it up, but i'm unsure of where to "place" it.. I want get the CPU's temp, just so i can feel a bit more safe, so should i place it on the side of the HSF? or something?, hehe.. thx for the help, I really appreciate it..

says i can attach it to a "VGA chipset" or "Hard Drive" for examples, .. so thats why i was wondering if should put it on the HSF...i did read it tho
