today i brought my laptop from a service center, cause they were changing my videocard...

now i have ATi 9600/9700 - 128mb

the only thing that i don't understand is: when i go to advanced display properties there is an option called SMARGART, thats where u can set your AGP... i have 3 options... off, 4X and 8x... whenever i move the slider to 4x or 8x -it tells me the pc has to be restarted to check the compatability... after the restart it shows the slider on the same position - AGP "off".

this really bothers me... games seem to work fine, but i cant fix my AGP settings in the advance display settings...

ANY EXPLANATION?

thanx in advance.

This is a pretty common problem. You need to reinstall your mobo chipset drivers.

If DXDIAG will not allow you to turn on AGP texture acceleration, then that is a confirmation of the need to reinstall the mobo drivers.

It could be set to PCI or something in BIOS, but I'd bet the common solution will fix it.

A "mobo" is a motherboard. It may be better if you called the service center which did the install. It seems that they did not complete the job, nor bother to test their work.

Good Luck with it.

They are the drivers for your motherboard's chipset. Similar to drivers for your videocard or modem.

For example, this desktop is using Intel's 845G chipset.

The place that put the card in should fix this for you.

To do it yourself, we'd need to know what kind of laptop and chipset, so we could try to find the drivers online.

YEAH!!

THANX A LOT 4 A GOOD ADVICE!

I downloaded necessary drivers. Those people at the service center are so BAD for not installing them.

I had the exact same problem with my X800. I realized I didn't even install my mobo's chipset drivers, so I did that, reinstaled my video card's driver, and everything was A-OK.
