plumbing: replacing shower controls

I am remodeling my shower. It used to have Moen controls, etc. I want to use the existing plumbing.

I know that Moen generally uses the same control (valves) for their entire line, but how long have they had their "standard" valve design?

I have one of hte controls that turns 270 degrees. Starts cold and then mixes in hot to the mix.

Thanks.

What are you asking?

Do you need parts for it?

I don't want ot replumb the control. Basically the valves that are typically brand specific in their design. There is no universal design that all companies agreed on.

So, I have a Moen. As long as I buy a new Moen set, I should be able to reuse the old controls (valves that are behind the wall and out of sight).

I jsut want to replace the decorative parts. The faucet, shower head and decorative control knob.

Well, to clear up some more, The decorative control as I call it attches to the valves that are behind the tiles. The valves(control) are usually universal by brand. Just the decorative parts are different.

I am asking, how true is this? I guess, how long has Moen had the same valve design that is in current use when you buy new cotnrols sets?

Yes. I want to replace everything, I jsut don't want to plumb in the new control . Just replace the decorative parts.

HD and Lowes both sell replacement parts for older faucets...check them out.

If you strike out, check a local plumbing supplier...

Oh, I ddin't know that. I'll have to give a closer look next time I go. I have time anyways as th old decorative pieces are my backup plan. the shower head, of course, will be replaced. Maybe the spout also.
