Weird it doesn't have threads on the bottom.

It looks like it was just press fit on there, maybe you can push up from the underneath with someone prying it up from above.

It says 'Oatey' on the side, see if you can match it up an find instructions on their website.

Do you know what's leaking? Is it the rubber gasket around the PVC pipe or the seal around the drain-tub?

Yea looks like it is a 1 peice glue in.

What you will probable have to do is cut the PVC and remove the drain flange and replace the whole piece. Then get a PVC coupling and slide the new peice down and glue back to the old pipe.

Not a big fan of those but since you can get under it, it should nto be a major repair. Hardest part is poabbel finding the right drain flange. Is the makers name on it or do the local hardware stores carry it?

Doh - that's what I was afraid of. I think it is leaking at the seal around the drain tub - not at the PVC pipe.

PottedMeat - Good suggestion about looking it up online. I'll see what I can find.

Marlin - Thanks for the help. I was hoping it would just screw off, but I tried doing that and it wouldn't budge. I have no idea who would carry it - this was all done in the house prior to us moving in a few years back.

What I would do :
Cut the pipe and put a trap in the line with a clean out.
looks like they used a cast iron rubber adapter and just slid the pipe in it.

This is what I would replace it with, I did a tile shower install myself and is what I used, all PVC
Shower drain ---> p trap----> cleanout---> old drain line

I THINK I have seen drains like that at lowes/HD but now 100%. It also could be part of the drain pan as a kit. So see if the drain pan has a name on it as well. But yet cut the PVC and then try to reomve the drain flange. It will probable be glued from what I can see so be careful and don't damage the pan to much.

But not to bad of a repair so don;t be to worried.
