For malware and virii. This is the only thing I am looking for. I do not wish to install anything. What are some of the best free options out there?

I guess there are none. BTW, I would presume a USB flash drive can be scanned just as easily as a hard drive. The idea was not optical and not installed.

You guess there are none? I just gave you a link to an app that can create a bootable USB stick with all kinds of anti-virus software and tools!

I thought you, and hence the link, was advocating a different path (one of optical, not USB). Using the link now.

Well the results of going to that sight and looking for a USB only solution got the best of me. Not only did it install to the hard drive, it also installed AVG. Both are things I explicitly stated I wasn't looking for.

I now consider the PC a loss as AVG is running rampant. I never gave AVG permission to install, but it is installed and causing issues. Fuck this shit.

http://www.sarducd.it/

Since USB devices can be infected I always run optical media.
WARNING, this link is to a place you do not want to go. Even when you think you have undone the mess it created, you haven't. I also found it installed extensions to both Firefox and Chrome for something called PriceGong, which were not there before running software I was under the impression wasn't installing to one's hard drive.

User Beware.

Now trying to run a system restore, but I have little hope the entire volume connected at the time is contaminated.

I ran SARDU on my computer and it installed none of that crap. What did you click on and did you at least chose custom install? When ever I download and install something I chose custom install. I'll download on this laptop and see if I get anything you got.

Okay, I don't know what the hell you did, but I just downloaded it from this link given in the web address I provided and installed and there was no AVG or tool bar install crap. Sardu is donation ware. http://www.sarducd.it/downloads

DO YOU SEE ANY AVG ON MY DESKTOP? Oh yeah, I watch Foxnews. LOL!

There must have been another vector where you got AVG from. This is the second time I installed SARDU and have not gotten any AVG or toolbar crap. Like I said, it's donation ware and SARDU is hosted on Majorgeeks as well.

I chose the USB flash drive for the install and it ignored that and installed to the HDD. I was never prompted to install anything else, it just happened. I have not d/l any other product, ever, for this PC other that MSE.

I was able to remove AVG and Sardu software (they actually had uninstalls), but the installed extensions came without uninstallers. I resorted to a System Restore from a week ago, and that placed me into an infinite failed to boot condition.

I opted for repair during one of the fail to boot sequences and the system repair failed. I then exited system repair and the system booted normally, on the Restore Point from a week earlier, with no f-ing extensions. I re-ran any critical updates, MSE definition updates, etc.

BTW, the extensions weren't in the form of toolbar additions, but whenever I opened Chrome or Firefox the default page was to an AVG intercept page. No idea about PriceGong as it was installed and not really functionally visible.

I now start over.
