plugging in the "panel" chords into the motherboard question

are the ground wires the black wires that are on all the pairs except the power switch wire?
and does it matter which way i plug in the power switch wire?

Generally it doesn't matter which direction the power switch and reset switches are plugged in. For the HDD LED, if it doesn't work in one direction, simply turn it around. You'll know as soon as you boot up for the first time.
