plug two playstation controllers into one input?

forgive me if this post is off topic... i figured this forum would have a better chance of having the electrical ppl necessary to answer my question

me and my brother have a tradition of playing the final fantasy games together... ff4, 5, and 6 particularly.

unfortunately, ff7, 8, 9, 10 are one player games only, with no support for two controllers. so i was thinking of buying two PS2 extension cables, and splicing them together so i could plug two controllers into the 1st player input and that might maybe work to allow us to both control the game.

however, i am wondering if this could possibly damage the ps2 and/or controllers (too much voltage, too little voltage, short circuit... i dont know too much about emag so i have no idea what im saying really). on that note, anyone know where i could find a wiring diagram for the ps2 controller cables?

it may create overcurrent. and cause things to not be recognized properly. maybe you can get a set of wireless controllers, and set both to the same channel.

 
wait, what will this accomplish by opening up the cabel and splicing the 2 controllers together? unless you are going to have him control one half of the controller and you the other, or you are going to swich controlers on death, it is kindof pointless. If the game does not support 2 players then no method short of hack, or making a new game is going to allow you to play together. Really I just cant see how it would be fun to have one player aim the gun and the other shoot the gun.

Just sugestion. It should be possible, and if you really want to be mean you could push buttons while he is playing 😀, or even hide the fact that you did it (dont know how you would hide a large cable but I guess you could do it. I cables should be color coated so you should be able to just connect the red wire to the red wire spot ect... But if it is not you will have to examine and place the wires in at the connection point. Enjoy.
 
Probably not. If the controllers use any form of communication protocol between itself and the station, you can toss out that idea. However, if it uses 1-wire for each command button, then you can probably link the two together with some resistors to limit current, but I'd doubt it's as easy as that.

What the adapter does is "combine" the two controllers by tagging each data packet with an ID telling the unit which controller is sending the data.
 
i like the wireless controller set to the same channel idea. altho much more expensive then splicing, but wireless controllers are just so cool. (case in point: wavebird yea it's for the cube but whatever)
