plug it in, fans come up, nothing else (Solved...CPU was loose)

I have a PC I got cheap from a guy at work, consisting of an Abit BH-6 (BX chipset, slot 1 mobo), a P3 700, and 3x128MB PC100. I had to ship the PC to someone who was "supposed" to buy it, but backed out and sent it back, unopened (verified). The item was shipped UPS. It worked before I shipped it.

It seems the guy I bought it from added an aftermarket HSF to the slot1 P3, but left out some brackets or something that secure the CPU in it's slot. By the time I got the PC back (from UPS), the CPU had been shaken out of the slot and was laying inside the case. I stripped it down, looked everthing over and saw no signs of damage, so I reassembled it.

Now, when I hit the power button, the fans come up, but I don't get any bios beep or video activity. Just for kicks, I unplugged the CPU, and got the same result.

Any ideas??

You probably already did it, but try re-seating the cards and RAM. Make sure the CPU really is going all the way down into the slot, since its slot (and the AGP slot) has two rows of contacts.

It could also be that the CPU knocked some small surface-mounted goodies off the motherboard in transit, or the case flexed and popped some off the board. The only other idea I have is to start testing the components in working systems to whatever extent you can, to see what's what. Good luck!

Haha, close.
When I did the tear down and inspection, I monted the HSF upsidedown, so even though it looked like it was seating properly, it wasn't. Corrected the HSF and felt a nice snug click upon insertion of the CPU cartridge. Plugged it in and Voila, it works!!
