Is it OK to plug a low rpm, low noise fan like a 120mm Panaflo L1A into a motherboard fan header.

Considering the other things in the system:
P4 3.06ghz cpu
1gb memory (2x512)
GF6800 Ultra
Audigy 2
1 74gb raptor
1 200gb seagate
1 NEC DVD-RW
2 low rpm 80mm NMB fans on 5v (connected to psu)
1 low rpm 80mm NMB fan plugged into motherboard header
1 low rpm 92mm papst fan plugged into motherboard header
All this running on an Antec Neopower 480watt psu

I left out the CPU fan because thats what the 120mm is replacing...

Depends on the Amp rating of your fan. Anything under 0.5A should do OK. Some mobos have a spec for the maximum Amp rating of the mobo headers - check your manual and web site FAQs.

You can also go by the wattage, if you can't find any information regarding your particular board I'd say keep it under 6 watts to be safe.

GnomeCop; where did you pick up your NMB fans?

Nice.... I hear good things about them. How do you like them compared to your panaflow?

I don't have any panaflo fans in my case just yet. i was gonna pick one up because my zalman 700cu is startign to make weird noises. I was gonna get that thermalright aluminum heatpipe cooler and a 120mm panaflo fan to cool my cpu instead.

The NMB fans are pretty good, the papst is better but at the price i got the NMB they cant be beat.

It's definitely safe. I actually have 4 fans (1 120MM, 2 80MM and one blower) connected to 1 motherboard header. I attached them all using a 2pin connector and modded them to a lower voltage.

cool, I will probably order my HSF combo soon , but for the time being my CNPS7000cu stopped making the noise, so I can hold off a bit longer

GnomeCop, I have hear horror stories of people blowing these connectors out by trying to pull too much current out of them. Just make sure you don't exceed the rating of that header according to your motherboard specs.

yeah I'm gonna either try to find my motherboard manual or try to find the info on intel's site before I order. Its a D875PBZ board. It has like 4 or 5 fan headers. Hopefully the low rpm/ low power rating of aa 120mmm L1a Panaflo is not too much for it.
