Plextor is a great name when it comes to optical drives. This one has gotten good reviews every place I've seen it. If you want a dual layer drive, you can get the new NEC 16x drive at newegg for about the same price.

Dual layer is the ability to write two layers on a DVD disc, meaning double the storage. (4.7GB X2). DL media is currently very expensive.

I've got this burner and it rocks! I've been using Nero 5.5 with it and all I can say is that this will be all I need for burning for a while. I've also used it for gaming and (D3 and Far Cry) and again no problems. BTW, prices are really coming down on this burner. Good luck and have fun!

Price is US$80. after rebate at newegg... You can get the new 712 at newegg for the same price as the 708 at Tiger AR. I'm sure you could find a better deal than Tiger from someone who ships to Canada. Have you checked mwave.com or zipzoomfly.com or outpost.com. I found that zipzoom and outpost do ship to Canada.
. Also check at Provantage.com and yesmicro.com.

I just realized that some rebates may only be valid in the United States, better check carefully. If that's the case, perhaps you have a friend in the States that could act as your "agent" ;) ..
